Are you ready to meet them? Take a look at who balled out on the field in Ogilvie.
Owen Heins | LB/OL | Ogilvie | 2024
Heins showed a good crashing ability within the inside lanes that led to quite a few key tackles against the Rangers on Friday night. Owen showed solid contact when he connected with the ball carrier for the duration of the night. Even towards the end of the game when the Lions were down a significant margin, this young man kept fighting and in the end put together a solid game against Mountain Iron-Buhl.
Braden Tiedeman | FS/WR | Mountain Iron-Buhl | 2022
Tiedeman was by far one of my favorite safeties I got to watch on my Friday scouting trip in both games I watched. This young man was super alert and well aware of where the football was going when he was in pass coverage. Braden connected on multiple pass breakups to my count and has a high connection level when hitting the ball carrier, especially on a play right in front of my eyes, where he connected with an Ogilvie Lion and was mistakenly called for unnecessary roughness on what was just a hard-nosed hit by Tiedeman. This young man also has solid character too.
Hunter Kenyon | DB | Ogilvie | 2024
This will be one of two twin brothers featured from the Ogilvie Lions from Friday night. Kenyon set the tone for the Ogilvie defense when he got a key interception deep in Rangers territory setting up his twin brother, Tucker for a short rushing touchdown. Kenyon was not the biggest player on the Lions, but put in the hard work behind the scenes of their secondary and kept the Lions in contention with his play especially in the first half. No film available as of yet.
Hunter Weigel | FB/LB | Mountain Iron-Buhl | 2022
Weigel was one the most hard-nosed prospects I got to watch on Friday and was really effective on both sides of the football. This young man was a gobbler from a tackle perspective at linebacker for the Rangers. He by far had the best grit play I have watched live thus far this season when he put two Lions defenders into the grass on his way to a 10+ yard rushing touchdown in which he showed the great drive in his lower body to take both defenders down and pave his way into the end zone.
Tucker Kenyon | RB/LB | Ogilvie | 2024
Tucker Kenyon was the most solid performer for the Lions on both sides of the football. He ran the football with a chip on his should and showed good speed and a good shift in his footwork as well. On defense, Tucker showed great contact when connecting with the ball carrier. I said this in my game report and I will say it again, these Kenyon boys are going to be a fun tandem to watch in 9-man football over the next several years for the Ogilvie Lions. No film is available as of yet, but I am looking forward to seeing some in the near future.
Damian Tapio | RB/LB | Mountain Iron-Buhl | 2024
Tapio showed off some great straight-line speed at running back for the Rangers, who logged three key touchdowns on the night. This young man outplays his measurables (5’8 165) for sure as he had a solid burst, but also had a powerful lower body to drive the bus for those extra yards after contact. Damian is really effective on the outside lanes on the pitch as he gives the Rangers a quick and explosive ball carrier they can count on for the next several seasons in Mountain Iron. With more strength in the weight room, I think this young man could play college ball when it’s all said and done.
Andy Berg | TE/CB | Ogilvie | 2022
Berg early in the game showed a young man with a well-rounded catch radius that had a longer size than I expected with his 6’2 size. Berg also provided length in the Lions secondary and hits as hard as you should want out of your cornerback. I couldn’t locate any recent football film from Berg, but based on what I can find in his basketball tape, Andy has his hands in the cookie jar when it comes to using that length to create steals and height to get blocks for the Ogilvie Lions.
Asher Zubich Asher Zubich 6'1" | 185 lbs | QB Mountain Iron-Buhl | 2023 State MN | QB/DB | Mountain Iron-Buhl | 2023
After cracking my colleague Oliver West’s Midwest Top Performers last week, I knew making the 70-mile drive north to Ogilvie was a trip I had to make to watch Ashler Zubich & the Mountain Iron-Buhl in a trip that was well worth the drive. Zubich wasted no time in the first quarter, showing off his great arm strength and touch on the football for a 70-yard passing touchdown. finding the Rangers building momentum late in the first quarter. He not only got it done in the passing game but broke a similar gain of 70 yards with his legs. His ability to get thru high-traffic areas and then explode upfield is super fun to watch. He has a great vision to unfold the defense and read what the best option for the play is. Zubich is a kid if I am a scholarship-level college football program, that I am buying stock now in as 2023’s are up to the plate as Zubich has to be one of the best 9-man talents in Minnesota with excellent next-level measurables too.
