This article featured some prospects that have already made waves on the recruiting trail and a few others that are still waiting on that illustrious first offer.
QB: Ty Hurst, 6’2″, 160, Tallmadge, OH, Jr
Hurst finished Friday going 17/18 for 404 yards passing & 5 touchdowns. He was fantastic on called sprint outs and dropped multiple dimes to his targets in stride. He was decisive on RPO’s, pulled the ball, and delivered quick strikes to his man. He showed no issues throwing out of different arm slots when forced to and stood tall in the pocket with blitzers bearing down on him. His overall ball placement through three games has been fantastic; Hurst has shown he’s a true pocket-passer who can work all three levels of the field.
RB: Makhi Hughes, 5’10”, 185, Huffman, AL, Sr
I tweeted about Hughes a few months ago and felt like he was a Power-five type running back based on his junior film. Through two games, he’s done nothing but help my case, rushing 35 times for 425 yards and 7 touchdowns. His ability to sink his hips, cut back and reaccelerate is pretty special. Hughes has shown fantastic vision on zone runs and the ability to run through arm tackles almost effortlessly. He can kick it into second gear and hit his top-end speed in the blink of an eye. I genuinely believe Hughes is going to have a two thousand-yard type season for Huffman this fall, and more Power-Five type programs are going to take notice.
QB: Joe Humphreys, 6’5, 195, Daviess County, KY, Sr
You’re looking at an athletic dual-threat quarterback who can get it done with his arm and his legs. This past Friday, Humphreys was 33 of 38 for 567 total yards and 6 total touchdowns. He was brilliant when forced to improvise outside the pocket and gave defensive backs who didn’t lock on fits. He recognized single-high safeties all night, forced them away from his target with his eyes before delivering a bomb downfield. If you give this young man time in the pocket to work his progression, he will thrash you. Humphreys currently holds a few Non-Power-Five offers; look for that list to grow if he keeps putting up performances like this one.
WR: Brody Blankenship, 6’2″, 185, Carter, TN, So
Just a sophomore, but Brody has already made his presence felt in his first two games. Last Friday, he accounted for 10 receptions, 205 yards receiving, and 3 touchdowns. He’s shown an uncanny ability to make acrobatic type catches. Blankenship is deadly on quick game concepts and can create chunk plays if he’s not tackled immediately following a reception. He’s tough in traffic and more than willing to take a shot to haul in a reception. I thought Brody was great last year as a freshman but looks like he’s taken his game a step further. I genuinely believe he’s a no-brainer FBS prospect.
