The game sets up to be a battle of contrasting styles with flexbone offense that Magnolia uses and the high-powered spread offense of El Dorado. Magnolia is looking to right the ship this week against an explosive El Dorado team. Let’s take a look at both teams and preview what should be a fun football game to watch this week.
Looking first at the visiting Magnolia Panthers, the Panthers have a tremendous offensive backfield. Running back Garrion Curry Garrion Curry 5'9" | 180 lbs | RB Magnolia | 2023 State AR is a junior running back that is flashing some division one potential this season. However, Curry is one of three guys that can take it the distance for the Panthers. Quarterback Dalen Blanchard and fullback Deraylen Williams also help shoulder the load for the Magnolia Panthers. The Magnolia offense will want to churn out the yardage on the ground and find a way to shorten the game against El Dorado. Not turning the ball over will be a key for the Panthers in snagging a victory this week.
Meanwhile, on the defensive side of the ball the Panthers will need to find a way to force El Dorado off the field. Kendrick Carey Kendrick Carey 6'0" | 175 lbs | RB Magnolia | 2022 State AR in the linebacker corps is going to have to disrupt the talented El Dorado passing game. Carey racked up 84 tackles a year ago and will need to continue to play well as the 2021 season heats up. Defensive lineman Lamarcus Curry picked off a pass against El Dorado and ran it back for a touchdown last season against El Dorado. The same production will be needed this season for the Panthers to defeat the Wildcats. 4
Looking now, at the El Dorado Wildcats. El Dorado has plenty of weapons on the offensive side of the ball to contend with this season. Both Jackie Washington Jackie Washington 5'9" | 180 lbs | WR El Dorado | 2022 State AR and DeAundra Burns can stretch the field and are a threat to score from anywhere on the field. The Magnolia defense will have its work cut out for them with this group on Friday night.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Wildcats have a dangerous corps of linebackers that all do a good job of disrupting the opposing offense. Patrick Sixbey Patrick Sixbey 6'2" | 245 lbs | LB El Dorado | 2022 State AR , Jyrin Steward Jyrin Steward 6'0" | 210 lbs | LB El Dorado | 2022 State AR , Javin Steward Javin Steward 5'11" | 200 lbs | DL El Dorado | 2022 State AR all have the potential to take the game over.
