South Forsyth, with a brand-new head coach and quarterback coming into this season, has been one of the biggest surprises across the state for the first few weeks. Led by junior quarterback Ty Watkins Ty Watkins 6'3" | 220 lbs | QB South Forsyth | 2023 State GA , South Forsyth used their high-powered passing attack and strong defense in a decisive 35-13 victory. The undefeated Lambert Longhorns had a lot of trouble with the War Eagle offense, earning their first loss of the season. South Forsyth used their high-powered passing attack and strong defense in a decisive 35-13 victory.
Here are some of the top offensive performers from South Forsyth’s big win….
Ty Watkins Ty Watkins 6'3" | 220 lbs | QB South Forsyth | 2023 State GA – QB – South Forsyth
We’ve been writing about Watkins all summer as a “breakout” 2023 QB to know in Georgia and he has proven us right through the first few weeks. Leading South Forsyth to victory over rival Lambert, the first-year starter is a tough, physical QB at 6-foot-2 215-pounds who showed off his legs just as much as his arm this weekend. He didn’t throw for a ton of yards, but he made big throws all game and found the endzone multiple times through the air. He finished the night with 139 passing yards and three touchdowns to go along with an incredible 36-yard TD run on 4th down. He was efficient, smart with the football, and made it look easy at times. He can run through tackles due to his size, but he also showed he can make big throws down the field. He also scrambles well in the pocket, played composed, and showed leadership throughout the game.

Kojo Antwi Kojo Antwi 6'1" | 190 lbs | WR Lambert | 2022 State GA – WR – Lambert
It may have come in a losing effort, but it was clear to see why Lambert wideout Kojo Antwi Kojo Antwi 6'1" | 190 lbs | WR Lambert | 2022 State GA is one of the state’s best playmakers. The future Ohio State Buckeye is fast, explosive, and a threat to score every time he touches the ball. He wasn’t able to break off any explosive plays against a tough War Eagle defense, but he did have a handful of touches and impressed when given an opportunity. The Longhorns don’t have the greatest passing attack this year, so a lot of Antwi’s touches came on quick throws either in motion or out of the backfield.
Nice catch and run for 4-star WR and Ohio State commit Kojo Antwi (@Kojo_Antwi2) pic.twitter.com/peaCa8LkU8

Gavin Morris Gavin Morris 6'1" | 210 lbs | ATH South Forsyth | 2022 GA – Running Back – South Forsyth
One of the more underrated athletes across the state, the senior leader was a tough, powerful runner out of the backfield for the War Eagles on Friday night. the Samford commitment ran hard and picked up tough yards that really strained the Longhorn defense. He was reliable all night, especially down by the goal-line. Morris has a nose for the endzone and came away with two touchdowns on the night. The 2020 Region 6-7A Athlete of the Year, Morris is also a standout linebacker, showing why he’s one of the toughest two-way players you’ll find in the region. He loves contact on both sides of the ball, and now that he’s fully healthy, he’s expected to make the South Forsyth offense even more dynamic moving forward. Morris finished the game with 80 total yards & 2 TDs.
This has been the Gavin Morris @thegavinmorris8 drive. Had multiple tough, impressive runs and gets the TD here.

Chris Nelson – WR – South Forsyth
One of the fastest prospects in the entire state, the 7A 200M state-champion showed off his track speed in a big way, and also showed outstanding hands when he reeled in a long first-half touchdown. He’s more than a straight-line sprinter. He’s learning how to become a true receiver who can run routes and create separation, but at the end of the day, there aren’t many defensive backs in the state who can run with Nelson. He’s explosive, he’s an obvious deep threat, and now he’s showing impressive ball skills. He’s a little on the smaller side still, but speed and playmaking ability mean more than speed in today’s era of high school football, and that’s exactly what Nelson brings to the table. On Friday night, Nelson caught three passes for 59 yards and one touchdown. He now has 13 receptions for 280 yards and two TDs on the year.
