They’re absolutely dismantling teams on both sides of the ball, and their execution has been flawless in every way. After going undefeated in non-conference play, they face a tough test in their next matchup against Bishop McNamara. However, they also don’t have a game this week so they’ll have an entire additional week to solely focus on and prepare for the McNamara Mustangs. Let’s take a closer look at the Cadets who shined brightest over the weekend against Archbishop Wood.
ST. JOHN’S CADETS
Offense:
2022 6’1 190 QB – Wyatt Hagan Wyatt Hagan 6'1" | 190 lbs | QB St. John's | 2022 State MD
The consistency of Wyatt Hagan Wyatt Hagan 6'1" | 190 lbs | QB St. John's | 2022 State MD is nothing short of spectacular. He has more control over his offense than any other WCAC quarterback, and it is also his experience which really sets him apart from the rest of the pack this season. Each game Hagan showcases the chemistry he has developed with his receivers over the years, and he’s now truly reaping the rewards of his hard work. Wyatt Hagan Wyatt Hagan 6'1" | 190 lbs | QB St. John's | 2022 State MD ’s long ball also looks better this season than it ever has, and that will certainly benefit Bowling Green next year when Hagan transitions there for college football in 2022.
2022 5’6 170 RB – Jamar Curtis Jamar Curtis 5'6" | 170 lbs | RB St. John's (DC) | 2022 State MD
Jamar Curtis Jamar Curtis 5'6" | 170 lbs | RB St. John's (DC) | 2022 State MD was absolutely the offensive MVP of this contest. He broke free for an early 37 yard touchdown run, which opened up the scoring for the Cadets, and he added a second rushing touchdown later in the game that sealed the victory for St. John’s. Curtis also had a touchdown reception, bringing his total to three touchdowns on the day. There’s no doubt that Jamar Curtis Jamar Curtis 5'6" | 170 lbs | RB St. John's (DC) | 2022 State MD is the leader of St. Johns’ backfield, and, with his leadership and experience, the Cadets have a real good chance of being crowned WCAC champions this year.
2022 6’4 180 WR – DJ Linkins DJ Linkins 6'4" | 195 lbs | WR St. John's | 2022 State MD
DJ Linkins DJ Linkins 6'4" | 195 lbs | WR St. John's | 2022 State MD is hands down the best wide receiver in D.C. He added two more touchdowns to his vast touchdown collection, and he always does so with a flourish. Linkins’ ability to get open downfield behind the secondary is extremely impressive, and he continues to do it time and time again. He burns every single defensive back who attempts to cover him with incendiary speed, and from that point on his incredible length and catching ability do the rest. DJ Linkins DJ Linkins 6'4" | 195 lbs | WR St. John's | 2022 State MD will continue to put up big numbers during WCAC play this year and beyond at the D1 level.
Defense:
2022 6’1 215 LB – Kendall Sims
The St. John’s defense has only allowed 13 points the entire season, and the Cadets could potentially be the best overall defense in the nation. Kendall Sims is a crucial member of that defense, and he showed why against Archbishop Wood with his explosive tackling and a huge fumble recovery that swung the game even more for the Cadets. Sims made tackles in the backfield, open-field, and even in the secondary, or in other words, he really made his presence felt all game long. Kendall Sims is a division one level talent who just delivered a huge breakout performance for the Cadets. Expect Sims to continue to shine bright as WCAC play begins for St. John’s.
2023 6’4 240 DL – David Ojiegbe David Ojiegbe 6'4" | 240 lbs | DL St. John's | 2023 State MD
David Ojiegbe David Ojiegbe 6'4" | 240 lbs | DL St. John's | 2023 State MD continues to impose his will on opposing offensive lines, and, when he does so, there’s essentially nothing that can stop him. Ojiegbe is extremely quick for his size, and he’s able to beat linemen off the snap pretty easily at this level. He seemed to breach the backfield on almost every play against Archbishop Wood, stifling ball carriers and quarterbacks as they fought for negative yardage. Every offensive line in the WCAC better account and game plan for David Ojiegbe David Ojiegbe 6'4" | 240 lbs | DL St. John's | 2023 State MD , or they’re going to have an extremely difficult time scoring on St. John’s.
