Although the offense found success it was through +5 total turnovers between the teams and long inefficient drives sometimes ending in failed fourth downs. These are the players on both teams that made the game competitive from the defensive side of the ball.
#43 ILB Gabe Henderson (Bullitt East)
Lead the team in TFL and was tied for most tackles (10). Gabe was there to play, making contact and getting to the ball often, even on passing plays. Amazing inside linebacker in week 2, definitely held it down on defense when they were in 3rd downs and the redzone. Opening the season with fast pace and aggression in each hit.
#6 DB Matthew Parrott (Bullitt East)
Tying Gabe with (10) most tackles, was involved more with keeping the air game form Spencer to a minimum, when allowing a pass he was excellent with tackling in the open field, 9 solo tackles and none he struggled with. Bullitt East had power in there back field and Matthew brought that in week 2.
#3 DB Kellen Marksbury (Spencer County)
Was able to successfully intercept and cover consistently one of the Chargers many aerial threats. Kellen couldn’t cover them both but the one he did cover wouldn’t get the ball that play. Consistency and great tracking with his feet and hands. Marksbury is a DB that might have more big games, despite the loss.
#40 DE Jaxon McLeaden (Spencer County)
Was good at plugging running lanes and was one of there bigger guys that could take a lot of contact each play. Jaxon had the ability to play good DE just didn’t have much help and would often get double teamed of the snap.
#11 DL Isaiah Hare (Bullitt East)
Was a good weak side DE, made the most out of each play his way. Any opportunity he had to make an impact he succeeded on, he was exceptional at driving linemen back and be causing alot of havoc from Bullit East’s blind side and some times down the middle. Hare is a versatile strong linemen who had several big plays.
#17 DB Jacob Mattes (Spencer County)
Was a great nickel and dime back, he could transition to blitz or line backer duties but also stay with guys on the outside. Jacob was a reason there dime blitzes were giving Bullitt East any trouble, the only thing to stop there run and passes effectively. He was a huge part of their defensive strategy and played his part how it was drawn up.
