Continue ReadingWeek 3 of the ’21 season was easily headlined by one of the biggest rivalries in the state. The 2021 version of The Holy War wasn’t as high scoring as the previous meeting, but it was just as dramatic. The Saints came in riding a two-game win streak, while the Stags were searching for their first win. After a low scoring affair in the first half, both teams traded blows in the second. The Stags took advantage of some miscues by the Saints late in the game, as they went on to pick up their first win in a 23-20 victory.

Here are some prospects that stood out in this huge rivalry matchup (Unofficial Stats).
Sean Carroll Sean Carroll 6'0" | 210 lbs | RB St. Thomas Aquinas | 2023 State KS – Aquinas, RB, Class of ’23
The Sean Carroll Sean Carroll 6'0" | 210 lbs | RB St. Thomas Aquinas | 2023 State KS Show continues to roll on this season, as the junior once again rushed for over 200 yards. Carroll toted the rock 37 times in this contest, rushing for 262 yards and two touchdowns. It was a gritty performance from the bruising runner in a heartbreaking loss. He’ll look to keep his hot start to the season going against Blue Valley next week.
Mac Armstrong – Miege, QB, Class of ’23
Armstrong showed some toughness in his first start in this storied rivalry. The junior rose to the occasion and made an excellent throw to Daegen Jensen for a 15-yard touchdown strike late in the fourth quarter. He ended the night going 19/26 with 209 yards and the lone touchdown pass. He’s played well through his first three games as the Stags’ starter and should only get better as the season goes on.
Jaylen Burch – Miege, RB, Class of ’22
Burch was recently featured in our 5th edition of the Class of ’22 Watch List Series, and for good reason. It was tough sledding for him in the first half against Aquinas’ stout defensive line. But he did manage to piece together some key runs in the second half. The senior went on to rush for 66 yards on 17 carries with one score.
Underclassmen that impressed:
Dillon Marshall Dillon Marshall 6'2" | 190 lbs | DB St. Thomas Aquinas | 2024 State KS , Aquinas, DB, Class of ’24
Marshall showed why he’s ranked inside of the Top 10 in the Class of ’24 player rankings. He was one of the Saints’ leading tacklers in this one. The sophomore stepped up and is looking like a breakout defensive prospect for Aquinas.
David Garcia – Miege, RB, Class of ’24
Garcia came in a few times in the second half to give Burch a breather and provided a nice spark for the Stags. His highlight of the game was his 31-yard scamper to put Miege in scoring position early in the fourth quarter. Garcia finished the game with 42 yards rushing and one touchdown.
