There are a few on the cusp of seeing their recruitment take off after an excellent start to the season through four or five games. The state has no problem producing high-quality quarterbacks and we saw some big-time performances this past weekend.
Here are some of the top QB performances from week 5 across the peach state…
MJ Morris – Carrollton
The Carrollton Trojans are a powerhouse in West Georgia, and they saw a passing record break last weekend as senior MJ Morris threw for 6 TD passes in a 56-15 win over Dalton. Myles is one of the top dual-threat QBs in the state and has been a highly sought-after prospect since early in his career. A baseball star on the diamond, Morris is a dynamic athlete who continues to improve his arm year after year. He’s an excellent runner, but Morris is a true QB who can read defenses and get the ball to the right guy. He’s smart, understand the position, and can make just about every throw at this level that you could ask from him. He throws an accurate deep ball but knows how to throw with some zip into tight windows. He ended the game 16/19 for 255 yards and six touchdowns through the air while rushing for another touchdown. Look for the N.C State commitment to lead Carrollton to a deep playoff run this fall.
Kasen Weisman – South Paulding.
If you don’t know about South Paulding QB Kasen Weisman yet, now is the time to get to know him. One of the most slept on 2023 QBs in the state, Weisman keeps on producing each and every week. The 6-foot-2 180-pounder had a tough task on his hands as South Paulding traveled up to Rome last Friday night, but he led South Pauling to a 34-32 win, going 17-22 for 303 yards and 3 TDs. This was a gigantic win for the program and Weisman’s performance showed that he can absolutely play at the next level. He was smart with the football, made correct decisions, and was accurate all night long. He moved well in the pocket and can make plays with his feet, but he was able to lead South Paulding to victory with his arm. He threw the ball well on the run and pushed the ball downfield accurately when he needed too. He’s a dynamic, playmaking QB who can really frustrate defenses in multiple ways. Through four games this season, Weisman has throws for 992 yards and 7 TDs while rushing for over 130 yards and four more scores. He’s a breakout 2023 QB to know about as soon as possible.
Tyler Hughes Tyler Hughes 6'1" | 195 lbs | QB Marietta | 2022 State GA – Marietta
Once again, Blue Devil QB Tyler Hughes Tyler Hughes 6'1" | 195 lbs | QB Marietta | 2022 State GA makes the list with another impressive performance. He still doesn’t have a giant offer list, but if he continues this play for a few more weeks, schools without a 2022 QB commit would be crazy not to give him a look. The 6-foot-2 200-pound senior accounted for five more touchdowns this past weekend in a 38-12 win over Parkview. Hughes showed off his big arm and his legs all night while being safe and efficient with the ball. He went 13/19 for 241 and threw for four touchdowns in the contest while adding 37 yards on the ground with another touchdowns. Hughes is doing this against tough, stingy defenses, but his arm, experience in the offense, leadership, and mobility have led him to having one of the best starts for any QB in the state. On the season, Hughes has thrown for 1,110 yards and 16 touchdowns, leading the Blue Devils to an impressive 3-1 start to the season.
Ty Watkins Ty Watkins 6'3" | 220 lbs | QB South Forsyth | 2023 State GA – QB – South Forsyth
We’ve been writing about Watkins all summer as a “breakout” 2023 QB to know in Georgia and he has proven us right through the first few weeks. Leading South Forsyth to victory over rival Lambert, the first-year starter is a tough, physical QB at 6-foot-2 215-pounds who showed off his legs just as much as his arm this weekend. He didn’t throw for a ton of yards, but he made big throws all game and found the endzone multiple times through the air. He finished the night with 139 passing yards and three touchdowns to go along with an incredible 36-yard TD run on 4th down. He was efficient, smart with the football, and made it look easy at times. He can run through tackles due to his size, but he also showed he can make big throws down the field. He also scrambles well in the pocket, played composed, and showed leadership throughout the game.
