The PPL and DVL are loaded with talented kids who need extra exposure to boost their recruitment, that’s where we step in. We will highlight game scores and the top-ranked or unranked prospects in each game. Many teams were inactive and are expected to debut this upcoming week.
* None denotes that not enough film was available to watch to pick top performers.
Philadelphia Public League
*Germantown Academy 48 – Simon Gratz 18
Nadir Willis Nadir Willis 5'10" | 190 lbs | LB Northeast | 2023 State PA | 5’10, 180 | DL/LB | Gratz | 2023
Samir Wylie | 6’2, 180 | QB | Gratz | 2023
In a piece that primarily features Imhotep and Academy Park kids, here are two new names to look out for in the Pub, both being juniors on Simon Gratz. I saw limited film out of QB1 Samir Wylie, but love his early skillset and his ability to move. Before being ranked, I have to see more. Hopefully, I can get film of this kid more frequently.
As for Nadir Willis Nadir Willis 5'10" | 190 lbs | LB Northeast | 2023 State PA , this kid has been on my radar since the offseason. I’m always on the hunt for hidden talent out of the Pub and I may have found some in Willis. Love this kid’s pursuit on the outside edge. Gives reps rushing the passer with his hand on and off the dirt. Nice lean build, is shorter than you’d like for a next-level edge rusher but could intrigue as WILL LB. Plays with a ton of energy, just want to see more pure production out of him.
*Imhotep Charter 14 – DeMatha 10
Jahsear Whittington | 6’2, 255 | DL | 2024
Jamir Reyes Jamir Reyes 6'1" | 180 lbs | DB Imhotep Charter | 2022 State PA | 6’1, 185 | DB | 2022
Rashaan Wright Rashaan Wright 5'10" | 165 lbs | DB Imhotep Charter | 2022 State PA | 5’10, 170 | DB | 2022
Maurice Beverly Maurice Beverly 6'1" | 220 lbs | LB Imhotep Charter | 2022 State PA | 6’0, 215 | LB/DB | 2022
Kaliem Croswell Kaliem Croswell 6'4" | 315 lbs | OL Imhotep Charter | 2022 State PA | 6’4, 315 | OL | 2022
Tyrone Sturgis Tyrone Sturgis 6'4" | 200 lbs | DL Imhotep | 2022 State PA | 6’4, 200 | LB/DL | 2022
Covering Imhotep is a scout’s dream. Players everywhere, I highlight whoever is able to get film out first. Let’s speak on Jahsear Whittington’s first two games. PCC and DeMatha boast good offensive lines, but it’s unfair to ask opposing guards to block JW one-on-one. When you have two stud edge rushers, this kid is able to feast on matchups inside. Awesome power that hits you in a flash. Catches opponents off guard and once that happens, the rep is one. 10+ TFLs in two games against great comp. Doesn’t get much better than that. I don’t speak about Tyrone Sturgis Tyrone Sturgis 6'4" | 200 lbs | DL Imhotep | 2022 State PA enough either. Awesome build for a linebacker and possible future safety. The senior was consistent in slot coverage all night against DeMatha. As was stalwart’s Jamir Reyes Jamir Reyes 6'1" | 180 lbs | DB Imhotep Charter | 2022 State PA and Rashaan Wright Rashaan Wright 5'10" | 165 lbs | DB Imhotep Charter | 2022 State PA , one of the best cornerback duos PA has to offer. Reyes sealed the deal with a late interception that proved how valuable his skillset is to Imhotep.
*Steelton-Highspire 61 – Belmont Charter 6
*Olney Charter 0 – Chester 26
*Boys Latin 8 – Penn Charter 35
No film could be found from any of these three disappointing losses.
Delaware Valley League
*Academy Park 42 – William Tennent 7
Ibrahim Sanogo Ibrahim Sanogo 6'2" | 210 lbs | ATH Academy Park | 2022 State PA | 6’2, 215 | ATH | 2022
Eric Willis Eric Willis 5'9" | 150 lbs | DB Academy Park | 2022 State PA | 5’9, 150 | DB | 2022
Feels like I’ve been writing up the same notes on these Academy Park kids for the past 8 months, dating back to last spring. Last week, I saw a little bit of middle linebacker out of Sanogo and was impressed. At this point, it doesn’t matter where the kid lines up, I’m convinced he could play safety. Another productive week from the defensive back group as well. I love Eric Willis Eric Willis 5'9" | 150 lbs | DB Academy Park | 2022 State PA the defensive back, but seeing his acceleration and open field skills on display against Tennet was a thrill to watch. He was snatching ankles left and right. He was able to produce from various alignments on offense (wildcat QB, jet sweeps, tunnel screens). He could have had five touchdowns on the night easily. He’s growing into a true two-way threat. Get on both of these kids.
*Olney 0 – Chester 26
*Conwell-Egan Catholic 26 – Interboro 7
Penn Wood 8 – Avon Grove 31
I could not uncover any film from any of these games.
