Here is a look at this week’s top quarterback performances:
Devin Rivas | North Arlington
Although the Vikings lost 46-42, Rivas has his best performance of the season so far. He completed 29 of 41 passes for 442 yards and five touchdowns. He also carried the ball 13 times for 49 yards and a touchdown. He tossed touchdowns of 8, 10, 26, 30, and 37 yards.
Analysis: Rivas showcased the ability to get the ball to his receivers in a hurry which allowed them ample yards after the catch. He showed good mobility outside the pocket and was able to make a number of throws rolling to both his left and right.
Devin Kargman Devin Kargman 6'2" | QB Woodrow Wilson | 2022 State NJ | Woodrow Wilson
One of the top quarterbacks in the state of New Jersey put on a dominating performance this past weekend as he completed 82% of his passes. He helped his team to a 44-21 victory over Haddonfield by completing 19 of 23 passes for 394 yards and five touchdowns. He threw touchdown passes of 12, 23, 24, 34, and 53 yards. He also scored a rushing touchdown from 2-yards out.
Analysis: The 6-foot-3, 220-pound prospect displays a strong arm and pinpoint accuracy. He often puts the ball where only his receiver is able to make the catch. He’s got good vision and mobility as he’s able to move about the pocket to allow time for his receivers to get open.
Jacob Sconza | River Dell
Sconza helped lead his team to a 31-20 victory over Westwood by completing 26 of 42 passes for 339 yards and three touchdowns. He threw two touchdown passes to receiver Kyle Case as he scored from 21 and 69 yards and another to Ryan Gillies for a five-yard score.
Analysis: Sconza stands tall in the pocket and gets the ball out to his receivers in a hurry. He does a good job anticipating his receiver’s routes as the ball often meets the hands of the receiver as soon as they make their breaks. He excels at short and intermediate passes.
Frankie Farmer Frankie Farmer 6'2" | 210 lbs | QB Peddie | 2023 State NJ | Peddie
Farmer was impressive as he helped his team to a 45-22 victory over Academy of the New Church (PA). He was 12 of 16 passing for 299 yards and four touchdowns. He threw touchdown passes of 7, 18, 43, and 69 yards and also rushed six times for 71 yards.
Analysis: Farmer isn’t the fastest player on the field but he does enough with his feet to keep plays and drives alive. The Central Regional High School transfer is quickly picking up the Peddie offense as he did a good job spreading the ball around in the victory.
Luke Wiedau | Allentown
Wiedau, a sophomore, had a near-perfect performance as he completed 18 of 19 passes for 288 yards and four touchdowns and he willed his team to a 42-38 victory. He threw touchdown passes of 11, 15, 19 and 36 yards. He also recorded a 14-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter.
Analysis: The sophomore showcases nice touch on his passes and always keeps his feet moving when initiating contact when running the ball. As he develops he should become more comfortable and confident in the pocket and allow more time to go through his progressive reads.
