Continue ReadingI love the amount of film that I was tagged in over the weekend! That influx of film has led to the largest number of kids we have ever had for a group of Top Performances. With the number of seniors that sent film nearing 30, I have decided that I will be dividing it up into two articles! This will be Part One, and Part Two should be less than a day behind. There are so many student athletes that deserve to be highlighted, and I don’t want to miss any of them that tagged us. With that being said, keep tagging us and let’s get into another week of checking out the top senior performances from across the great state of Wisconsin!
Elliott Nolin, ATH- Rice Lake
Stat Line: 10 Carries, 85 Yards, 1 TD, 2 Total Tackles, 1 INT
We start this week’s top performances off with a first time appearance from DB/RB Elliott Nolin. The 6′ 175 lbs two way playmaker is an athlete from northern WI who has been slipping under the radar. D2- D3 programs should take the time to check out Elliott. On offense, Elliott’s vision jumps off the screen from his wing position. You can see he does a good job of reading his blocks and finding the lane before he actually gets the hand off. That allows him to burst through the lanes as soon as he does get the ball. Once he has the ball in his hands, Nolin proved to be a strong runner with the contact balance to be able to generate yards after contact. Elliott does a good job of running behind his pads and absorbing shots as he keeps his legs churning. On defense there is only a few clips, but you again see that vision from the offensive side of the ball show up as he drops into his zone and reads and quickly reacts. That recognition allows him to get into position on time to disrupt the catch point and generate turnovers like he did with his INT this week. Elliott’s Week 3 Highlights
Mark Hartlieb Mark Hartlieb 6'2" | 210 lbs | TE Homestead | 2022 State WI , LB/TE- Homestead
Stat Line: 6 Tackles, 2 TFLs, 1 Reception, 17 Yards, 1 TD
Not a new name, but we are focusing on a new position here with our next member of the week’s Top Performances. Before we go to the new position, his TD from the TE position highlights his savvy route running. Mark gives a good fake to the corner with his head and shoulders that freezes the DB allowing him to cut towards the post route generating a ton of separation or his QB. On defense, I was expecting to see a raw OLB as he is still adjusting to the position. However, that is not the case as the 6’1″ 210 lbs athlete’s film shows us a kid who can have an effect on all three downs. He is able to stuff kick out blocks, which allow him to set the edge killing off tackle rush attempts. When his opponent tried to attack him out wide with the option game Mark used his gifted burst and athleticism to force the pitch and then bring down the ball carrier. I’m interested to see how he does in pass rush situations as the season goes on because he has the athletic tools to rush the edge. I’m more interested in what his pass rush moves look like at this point. Colleges need to take another look at Hartlieb as he develops in this new position.

Joaquin Alonzo, DE/LB/OL- Clinton
Stat Line: N/A
Another new name on my radar is a strong 6’3″ 240 lbs two way prospect. Joaquin burst onto my radar with his week three film that shows off a player oozing with potential. As an offensive lineman, Alonzo is a mauling, bulldozing run blocker. He comes out of his stance quickly, and maintains a strong, wide base through the entire play. Once he gets his hands clasped onto his defender’s chest plate the play was over for him. Joaquin’s superior strength allowed him to drive defenders downfield and finish them into the ground with tenacity. On defense, Joaquin lined up all over the field. You won’t find many LT with the athleticism and strength to play in the trenches on defense or at off ball LB. That’s what Alonzo does for Clinton. As for the next level, I’d say his home is in the trenches, but it could be on either side. On the defensive line that strength continues to shine as he wins the battle of holding the line of scrimmage, and his ability to shed OL and then make the tackle in the hole is very strong. College coaches, make sure you check this kid out. He could be one that helps on either side of the line. Joaquin’s Week 3 Highlights
Alexander Perelshtein Alexander Perelshtein 5'11" | 255 lbs | DL Homestead | 2022 State WI , DL- Homestead
Stat Line: N/A
As you go through the season and start to follow these student athletes from week to week you can see them develop and find their groove as the season goes on and they grow more comfortable with the grind of the season. Alex has been apart of each of the first three top performances, and his development has really impressed me. Week three was definitely his best week on tape. Snap after snap throughout his highlights you see his hand usage really take off this week. His swim move got him to the heels of the center on several plays, and then that high motor that shows up each week got him to or around the ball after each win against the IOL. On plays where Perelshtein didn’t go with the swim move he showed off his combination of leverage and strength as he was able to hold the line of scrimmage against single and double team blocks while his LBs were able to flow and fill behind him. Keep an eye on this kid. The arrow is pointing upwards for him.

Sam Milons Sam Milons 6'0" | 160 lbs | ATH Menomonee Falls | 2022 State WI , DB/WR- Menomonee Falls
Stat Line: 5 Tackles, 1 TFL
Milons is an intriguing D3 DB prospect that I have been waiting to see under the lights. This week we are finally able to dig into that film. Sam is clearly a gifted athlete and it shows up on this week’s film in the form of closing speed. Several of his tackles you see him either in a deep zone, reading the play, and then flying downhill for the tackle, or you see him recognize the play go to an underneath target, falling off his receiver, and then closing quickly to make the tackle for no yards after catch. I also came away impressed with the power behind his tackles. Milons does a good job of translating that closing speed into hit power on contact.Sam’s Week 3 Highlights
Cal Martine Cal Martine 6'0" | 230 lbs | RB Appleton North | 2022 State WI , RB- Appleton North
Stat Line: 25 Carries, 188 Yards, 1 Touchdown
Before watching the film from week three I was thinking about Martine’s recruitment and what might be holding him back. My initial thought was maybe he hasn’t shown his three down ability by being a weapon in the passing game. Then I watched the first play of this week’s highlights and crossed that off the list of reasons. When your 5’11” 230 lbs RB can split out wide for bubble screens that’s a huge advantage as he dwarfs DBs, is far superior in his strength, and also has next level long speed. The rest of his film goes back to what you expect from the stud workhorse back. The inside-outside versatility. Unmatched contact balance and power. The long speed to break contain and win races in the open field. If he continues to be a weapon in the passing game I don’t know what else you could ask from the big man out of ANHS. Cal’s Week 3 Highlights
Allen Torian Allen Torian 6'3" | 220 lbs | DL Living Word | 2022 State WI , DL/WR- Living Word
Stat Line: 4 Tackles, 1 Sack, 3 Receptions, 75 Yards, 1 TD
Allen continues to impress me with his new addition of WR work to his weekly film. The 6’3″ 215 lbs athlete sticks out while lined up out wide because of his impressive frame. He is a load to bring down after the catch, and he has enough speed to possibly become someone that teams might consider at TE at the next level. If not, then he still has his strong tape on the defensive side of the ball. His defensive film highlights Torian’s work in space. We get to see his range as he chases down plays from behind, his loose hips as he makes tackles out in space on RBs attacking his edge, and also his lateral agility to quickly make linemen whiff on blocks as he slips into the backfield. Allen’s Week 3 Highlights
Riley Warzynski Riley Warzynski 6'2" | 200 lbs | QB Stevens Point | 2022 State WI , QB- Stevens Point
Stat Line: 190 Passing Yards, 3 Passing TDs, 1 Rushing TD
This kid was staring down the barrel this week! Multiple times Riley stood tall in the pocket and delivered dimes down the field while pressure was right in his face, and sometimes even making contact with him. I love Riley’s aggressive play style as he has really pushed the ball down the field these last couple of weeks on film. This week I felt my eyes bugged out as he started making accurate throws with velocity down the field while off platform, not having his feet set, or while rolling to his left. Great to see that part of his game coming out, and I think the reason we are seeing him attack more down the field and make these off platform throws is that his confidence has made a jump from this past spring. He seems to be playing more loose and in control. Have your eyes on this kid. He is hitting his groove. Riley’s Week 3 Highlights
Brett Prange Brett Prange 6'2" | 210 lbs | ATH Manitowoc Lincoln | 2022 State WI , ATH- Manitowoc Lincoln
Stat Line: 235 Rushing Yards, 3 TDs, 120 Passing Yards, 2 TDs
Prange and Manitowoc Lincoln put a notch in the W column this week, and a huge part of the outcome is due to the productive night by the 6’1″ 210 lbs senior QB/RB/ATH. I believe that Prange’s future is at the RB position based off the film of the positions he currently plays. Brett is a big back that runs with power, but it’s controlled power. He doesn’t go head first into the line. Instead, he is a patient runner. Not only allowing his blocks to set up, but also allowing himself to quickly scan for cutback lanes instead of plowing into the back of his linemen when the play isn’t there. We got to see the straight line speed to on some long runs that give me more confidence that he can play the RB position at the next level. D2-D3 programs should definitely check the kid out. No offers from what I can tell, so come and get your steal of an ATH. Brett’s Week 3 Highlights
Abiathur Curry, OL- Janesville Parker
Stat Line: 0 Sacks Allowed
Big fan of the big man out of Janesville Parker. It’s going to feel repetitive if you have read the last two weeks of top performers because Curry earned spots in both of those, but the 6’6” 270 lbs OT is an easy mover for the position and especially for that size. The way he utilizes his length, especially in pass protection, is also next level worthy. Between the size, length, and athleticism I can’t figure out how Curry doesn’t hold any offers, yet. I do believe he will need to really hit the weights hard in the next offseason to get himself to the next step in his development as he looks to improve his anchor strength, but that’s one of the easier traits to improve with a solid program. Definitely check out this week’s film and look at his body control and how well he moves for 6’6″ 270 lbs. Abiathar’s Week 3 Highlights
Cole Berghorn Cole Berghorn 6'0" | 210 lbs | ATH Badger | 2022 State WI , RB/LB- Badger
Stat Line: 322 Rushing Yards, 3 TDs, 1 Forced Fumble
Cole has the straight line speed, the explosiveness, the short area agility, the vision and instincts, and the playmaking ability to create big plays without having to play through a lot of contact. However, he also is so strong and has such a low center of gravity that he doesn’t need to waste the time dancing when he can just play with a good forward lean and run right through defenders. I believe part of the reasoning for the physical play is that from his FB position he is expected to attack straight ahead and try to make subtle lateral adjustments while making sure he is always going forward. I’m confident Cole could continue this type of play at the next level, or be used in a way where he can utilize more of his athletic gifts over just his elite power.
