Some of the performances came in losing efforts, but the players gave it their all which is more than respectable. Every player listed showed a great motor on the field and seemed to be on every play. Do not be surprised if some names become frequent on this list but expect many others to step up heading into district play.
LB Kasey Murry (2022) – Cinco Ranch
Watching the game vs. Clear Falls, all you notice is #33 for Cinco Ranch in on just about every play. Murry was seeing the field well and showed fantastic anticipation throughout the game. Even with Clear Falls nascar pace, Murry managed to run sideline to sideline and be engaged in almost every play. He showed the ability to shed blocks quickly and locate the ball, and displayed good awareness, reading pulling guards and beating the running backs to the open lanes. Murry showed very good downhill speed and physicality. Expect him to make this list again in the future!
LB Jackson Ward (2023) – St. Thomas Catholic
Ward showed off his versatility in his teams shut out win. Ward looked like a defensive back in coverage, showing comfort in open space, and great closing speed. He was all over the field and caused much havoc for his opponent. Ward displayed very good quickness and block shedding ability, quickly locating the ball once disengaged. Ward is a very active player who shows much upside. One the night, Ward had 11 total tackles and an athletic interception.
LB Josh Wright (2022) – Clear Lake
Wright lived in the backfield against Cinco Ranch and he was a big part to his teams defensive success. Their opponents just could not get started like they wanted and Wright was a main contributor to that. Wright had 11 total tackles including 3 TFLs and 3 sacks. He was quick on reads and moved with good speed. Wright is a secure tackler and showed that once you are in his grasp there is no getting away. He was another active backer who managed to always be in the mix of a play.
DB Fordham Parks (2022) – Cinco Ranch
It was exciting watching Parks roam the secondary as well as return punts. Parks had early success in the game vs. Clear Falls, baiting the opposing quarterback into 2 interceptions. He played his safety position to perfection in the passing game. He showed great ball skills and athletic ability, and was not afraid to stick his nose in the run game. Parks played a physical game and was impressive in the return game as well, doing whatever he could to help his team to a victory. A very good athlete who will have more eyes on him as the season progresses.
LB Brayden Poe (2024) – Tomball Memorial
Poe was a tackling machine in the matchup vs. Kingwood. Poe was filling in gaps the entire night and more importantly, made the plays. He was a downhill player who did not let running backs get momentum. On the night, Poe recorded 12 total tackles, including 2 sacks and added a fumble recovery. He showed that the moment was not too big and he stepped up when needed. Poe has a bright future ahead of him.
Other Defensive Standouts:
LB Roy Morris (2022) – C.E. King

LB Tegan Spencer (2022) – St. Thomas Catholic
