Continue ReadingWeek 5 is the beginning of district play for many teams and for some, the first true test of the season. We have a few games that will give us an early idea of how districts will shape toward the end of the season, as well as evenly matched opponents who will look the set the tone for district play. We will be reaching the halfway point of the season and contenders will begin to separate themselves from the rest of the pack. Keep an eye out for many great games that should provide great entertain for the entire weekend.
Thursday, September 23rd, 7:00 p.m. (Rhodes Stadium)
Tompkins Falcons (4-0) vs. Cinco Ranch Cougars (3-1)
The Tompkins Falcons have flexed their muscles early in the season, going undefeated in non-district play. The Falcons offense has averaged 39 points per game and the defense has held opponents to 17 points per game. They are led by senior quarterback Cole Francis and senior linebacker Bryce Shaink Bryce Shaink 6'1" | 220 lbs | LB Tompkins | 2022 State TX , with good talent on both sides of the ball.
The Cinco Ranch Cougars look to bounce back after a tough lose to Clear Lake. The offense is led by junior gunslinger quarterback Gavin Rutherford and his top target, junior receiver Seth Salverino. The team averages 31 points per game and the defense, led by senior linebacker Kasey Murry and senior defensive back Fordham, manage to hold opponents to 20 points per game.
Friday, September 24th, 7:00 p.m.
North Shore Mustangs (3-1) vs. West Brook Bruins (3-1)
This should be a great test for both teams who haven’t exactly had an easy non-district schedule. This is what we expect from teams with championship aspirations. Both the Mustangs and Bruins have been challenged early and this game will give us a little preview of how competitive District 21 will be.
The Bruins come in putting up 30 points per game and holding opponents to 25 points. On the other side, the Mustangs are averaging 36 points a game and the defense is allowing 19 points a game. Both teams have very good talent on both sides of the ball and a few players you may not have heard of yet will have their opportunities to show out.
Saturday, September 25th, 6:00 p.m. (Hall Stadium)
Ridge Point Panthers (3-1) vs. Fort Bend Clement Rangers
This game will provide a great matchup between a high powered offense vs. a very tough, resilient defense. The Ridge Point Panthers are one of the divisions best as scoring, managing to score 43 points per game on a very strong run game. The Rangers of Fort Bend Clement take much pride in their defensive play, and has shut down just about everybody who they have played. This incredible defense limits opponents to just 8 points per game. That will be a key to watch throughout the game. This will be a chess game between the teams and the field will be loaded with great talent.
