Continue ReadingIt brings us a ton of joy to present 3 new players to this new installment, as we explore some of the new leaders in the state of Georgia in interceptions. Not only is this category extremely hard to record a high total, but it is also a category that relies on multiple factors. As you see below, entering into week 6 of the season, the highest individual total of interceptions so far is 5, which will slowly grow as the season goes on for some players. Likely, just as it did this time, this list will continue to shake up even more as the weeks go by. For now, feel free to enjoy some of the members of this list as we enter into week 6 of the regular season.
Jacori Mcgee- Campbell (5)
Mcgee is not only a newcomer to our list, but entering into week 6 of the season, he is now tied with KJ Reid for first place in interception totals in the state of Georgia. This total, along with his overall defensive performance, have helped his team to a 3-1 record. Outside of these interceptions, in which 3 came last week against Woodstock, Mcgee has only had 10 tackles this season, with 9 of them being solo tackles. As the season progresses, it will be interesting to see if Mcgee’s sudden jump to the top of this list will be short lived, or if he can continue to keep this rate of success up.
KJ Reid- Social Circle (5)
Since our last installment in this series, Reid is our only returner to this list, as he has added 1 more interception since week 3. This interception came against Oglethorpe High School last week, as his team won in a close game, 21-14. In this game, Reid also had 5 catches, for 87 yards, while also recording a TD. The week prior to this, he also had a 5 catch game, for just over 50 yards. Because of these performances, he not only totals 5 interceptions so far this season, but he also averages about 69 yards a game on offense. All of his contributions have helped his team to a 3-2 record, which they likely would like to see improve as the season progresses.
Langston Lewis- Islands (4)
Even though Islands High School currently sits at a 2-2 record, Lewis has provided his fair share of contributions to his team’s defense as he has already totaled 4 interceptions to this point of the season. These interceptions came at the beginning of the season as Lewis had 2 interceptions in each of the first two games of the season. To add to this, he has also seen time on the offensive side of the ball, and has totaled 3 catches for 22 yards over the past few games. Because his statistics seem a bit low in the additional categories, it will take a lot for Lewis to continue to be on this list as the season progresses even further. If he is able to add to this total, and do what it takes to help his team win, he will likely find a way to shoot up the list.
Tucker Lord- Briarwood (4)
Tucker Lord, who is another newcomer to this list, also has a total of 4 TD’s to this point of the season. These interceptions have helped Briarwood to a 4-1 record, just as his offensive performance has also done. A bulk of his interceptions came against Brookwood High School, in which he recorded 3 picks in their 21-20 win last week. His other interception came just a week before, as he recorded 1 against Trinity Christian as well. To add to this, Lord has also recorded 2 TD’s on the season, and has 116 yards receiving.
