Continue ReadingEntering into week 6 of the regular season, some teams have already displayed that they are further along than others. In separating themselves, they have been able to prove that they are not only some of the best teams in the state, but they are likely to continue to trend down this path, opening up further opportunities for playoff contention, and an eventual run at the State Championship. Below, we have ranked our top 5 teams so far, and we think that each of them have a good shot at making it all the way.
1- Collins Hill (5-0)
Aside from Collins Hill being able to return Travis Hunter Travis Hunter 6'1" | 165 lbs | ATH Collins Hill | 2022 State GA , they have also returned key players such as Sam Horn Sam Horn 6'4" | 190 lbs | QB Collins Hill | 2022 State GA , Cam Pedro, and Ethan Davis. This alone should solidify the validity of their number 1 ranking in the state of Georgia. Last year, even though they fell short in the State Championship to Grayson High School, they showed plenty of flashes of talent, and the potential for a bright future in 2021. Well, those flashes proved to be accurate, as they have already gotten off to a 5-0 record, in which they have practically steamrolled every team in which they have played. In each of these wins, the Eagles have scored more than 30 points each game, with their QB also averaging about 255 yards a game. Travis Hunter Travis Hunter 6'1" | 165 lbs | ATH Collins Hill | 2022 State GA has continued to shine on both sides of the ball, and the Eagles look poised to make another run at the championship if all goes according to plan.
2- Warner Robins (4-0)
In our opinion, Warner Robins deserves to be ranked 2nd in the state for plenty of reasons. Not only have they earned this ranking due to their undefeated record, but also due to the fact that they average 49 points a game, while being very consistent in holding opposing teams to a 2 score margin or more. The Demons have also returned some of their great players from last season, including Vic Burley, Nick Reeves Nick Reeves 6'4" | 265 lbs | OL Warner Robins | 2024 State GA , and Daveon Walker, which will likely be a strength for them moving forward once the playoffs roll around.
3- Buford (3-1)
At this point of the season, as impressive as both North Cobb, and Milton are, we also feel that Buford is a tier better than both of them. Not only did Buford defeat North Cobb in a head to head match up, but they have also managed to defeat Myers Park, which is a solid team out of Charlotte, NC. To add to this, their only loss on the season comes to the Hollywood, FL team, Chaminade-Madonna. In this game, they only lost 7-0, which is the second lowest point total that they have held a team to this season. The only total lower than this, was the 3 points in which they held Clarke Central to during week 2. As a whole, Buford has been very impressive, and players such as Isaiah Bond Isaiah Bond 5'10" | 160 lbs | DB Buford | 2022 State GA , Jake Pope Jake Pope 6'2" | 195 lbs | ATH Buford | 2022 State GA , and Victor Venn Victor Venn 5'9" | 175 lbs | RB Buford | 2022 State GA have helped them to get the job done. So far, after only 4 games, Buford has found strengths in both the passing, and running game.
4- North Cobb (3-1)
North Cobb has gotten off to an incredible start this season as they have already accumulated a 3-1 record. In fact, the reason we still have them ranked this high on the list despite their one loss is due to the fact that this loss came to Buford High School in the first game of the season. In this game, they lost 35-27. Despite this loss to open up the season, the North Cobb Warriors have managed to go on a rampage, scoring over 40 points in each of their games since then. In their region, they are already 1-0, and have seen success in the air, as well as on the ground. To add to this, North Cobb has held teams to an average of around 15 points a game, making it extremely hard for them to move the ball on them, and compete with North Cobb’s offense.
5- Milton (3-1)
While Milton may be ranked a bit higher on other lists, we believe that as impressive as they have been, there are certainly teams that have done a bit more so far this season. Regardless, they have managed to achieve a 3-1 record so far. Their only loss came against North Cobb, as they fell to them 40-21. Since then, they have managed to get back on track. Outside of North Cobb’s 40 point performance, Milton’s defense has played pretty well. In their other 3 games, they managed to pitch a shutout, while also holding teams to 21, or 14 points. have all be crucial in the defense’s success. On offense, Milton has continued to shine as well, as they have rushed for a total of 7 TD’s, and have already seen 8 TD’s in the air as well.
