With that said, this is the time of year when things get very interesting with huge district and rivalry games that can define a season for many.
Each and every week during the season we bring you matchups that will certainly impact football in the state of Florida – and this week is certainly no exception.
The 10 games that we are spotlighting this week will not only change the face of the Top 25, but also go a long way in determining playoff seeding as well.
CHECK OUT THESE 10 GAMES
Once again, if you live anywhere in the Sunshine State, there are some games that you will need to attend – to not see outstanding football, but to also support these hard-working players and coaches.
Where are you headed?
No. 5 Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas (7A, 6-1) at No. 9 Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons (4A, 5-1). After losing to the eventual 4A state champion Chiefs last season, the Raiders have revenge on their mind in this Saturday night game at FAU in Boca Raton. Both teams are defending state champs, looking to get back to the state title game. While they do not play each other regularly, people are taking advantage of watching two of Florida’s best.
No. 7 Miami Gulliver Prep (4A, 5-0) at No. 6 Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna (3A, 4-1). There are very few teams in the state that have enjoyed the success that the Lions have. Five straight trips to the 3A state finals and are a huge favorite to get back to Tallahassee once again. The Raiders have not lost in the regular season in three years and have so much to prove. This is a major statement game for them – and they are ready.
No. 15 Tampa Bay Tech (7A, 6-0) at Wiregrass Ranch (7A, 4-1). On the surface, the unbeaten Titans are a team that has been tested and are geared for big games with talent on both sides of the ball. This is a game for Wiregrass Ranch to jump on to the radar screen and show the rest of Florida they have the talent to compete.
Tallahassee Rickards (6A, 5-1) at No. 17 Lynn Haven Mosley (6A, 7-0). HUGE Panhandle game that will pit the defending state runner ups against a Mosley team that has been tested this season and are off to an amazing start. This is one of those games that everyone is anxious to check out. We will have plenty of answers after Friday night. It is indeed a classic matchup.
No. 18 Jacksonville Trinity Christian (2A, 6-1) at Tallahassee Florida High (3A, 5-1). This may not be a game that will mean much in the standings, since the Conquerors are 2A, but it will be a huge game – with both teams loaded with talent. Trinity, which was beaten soundly two weeks ago, rebounded with a win at home against Plantation American Heritage. This is really good matchup.
Vero Beach (8A, 4-1) at No. 23 Port St. Lucie Treasure Coast (8A, 4-1). Two years ago, this game went into overtime with Vero Beach coming out on top. Last year, it came down to the wire and the Titans snapped the Indians’ 65-game regular season winning streak. Get your popcorn ready because this may be the most competitive district title game in the state on this Friday in Port St. Lucie.
Auburndale (6A, 6-0) at Lake Wales (6A, 5-1). While Lakeland gets much of the Polk County love, here are two teams who are certainly as competitive as any team – and this evening will be a huge game for so many reasons. Talent and solid coaching on both sides of the ball.
Port Orange Spruce Creek (7A, 6-0) at Orange City University (7A, 4-0). Two surprising teams in a major district matchup is truly the game of the week in this region as the battle of the unbeatens will tell each program how they sit, heading into the homestretch of the season.
Rockledge (5A, 6-0) at Satellite (5A, 6-0). Here is a district matchup that just two years ago would be thought as a huge mismatch, but the Scorpions have built this program right over the past three years – and welcome a perennial power for a game that is now receiving plenty of attention on the Space Coast. It’s been a long time since a home game has meant so much for Satellite. Two quality teams ready for battle.
St. Johns Creekside (8A, 6-1) at St. Johns Bartram Trail (8A, 5-1). This “neighborhood” rival will truly define what this matchup is all about. Programs with plenty at stake in a game that will feature talented athletes and solid coaching on both sides of the ball. Should be a sellout crowd that will be out for bragging rights and much more.
