The Class of 2022 is putting up some big numbers across the board with the regular season two-thirds of the way done. Here’s a look at five players who are more than living up to their pre-season rankings.
Daniel’s Trent Pearman Trent Pearman 6'2" | 180 lbs | QB Daniel | 2022 State SC has continued to light up the scoreboard and fill up the stat sheet. Pearman had a breakout season a year ago, leading the Lions to the 3A state title. This year, he’s continued that trend. Despite playing a kind of fractured schedule as the Lions have had to look outside the state for opponents in the wake of Covid cancellations, Pearman has continued to shine. He’s thrown for 1,759 yards and 24 touchdowns on 137-for-187 passing, averaging 251.3 yards per game. When he runs it, he’s picking up 5.4 yards per carry. And he’s done all that while playing limited minutes, as the unbeaten Lions average 49.5 points per game, with their closest contest decided by 21 points.
Dorman DE Hudson Lee Hudson Lee 6'5" | 250 lbs | DL Dorman | 2022 State SC has been a force up front for the Cavaliers. Lee leads a defensive unit that’s particularly stingy against the run, giving up just more than 100 yards per game on the ground. Lee has 35 tackles on the season, with 14 tackles for loss, 8 sacks, 4 pass break-ups, and a fumble recovery.
Tyler Smith Tyler Smith 5'11" | 180 lbs | RB Gaffney | 2022 State SC has led a Gaffney rushing attack that has the Indians sitting at 7-0 for the first time since 2011. The Indians rush for nearly 200 yards per game behind Smith and teammate Ken Littlejohn. Both have breakaway speed, but Smith does a little more of the dirty work between the tackles. He has 812 yards and 16 TDs on the ground through 7 games, averaging 7.1 yards per carry and 116 yard per contest. He’s added 169 receiving yards and another touchdown in the passing game, and has a 57-yard kick return to his credit.
Chapman’s recent offensive success has been spurred by a line of top-tier QBs. Drew Settle Drew Settle 6'2" | 175 lbs | QB Chapman | 2022 State SC is continuing the tradition. Settle is putting up eye-popping numbers nearly every week as the Panthers are averaging 42.5 points per game. He’s thrown for 2,235 yards, a staggering 372.5 yards per game, and has done much of that while playing 3 quarters in blowout victories. Settle has thrown for 27 touchdowns on the year.
Broome’s Dylan Ramirez Dylan Ramirez 6'2" | 200 lbs | QB Broome | 2022 State SC is a bit of a do-everything player for the Centurions, but at the heart of things, he’s a quarterback – a REALLY good one. Ramirez has thrown for 2,089 yards and 16 touchdowns this season, eclipsing the Centurions’ single-game and career passing yardage marks along the way. He’s equally dangerous with his legs, rushing for 399 yards and 7 more scores. He plays a little safety for the Centurions, were he’s got 11 tackles, and he’s punted 14 times for 441 yards.
