With this game, we found nine noteworthy prospects that made our list of Big Dogs. Some had four touchdowns, some had double-digit tackles, and some showed a few reps, which sealed the deal why they are going to find a home at the next level. Find out who they are below!
Chase Jones Chase Jones 6'0" | 160 lbs | DB Dell Rapids | 2023 | DB | Dell Rapids | 2023
On the multiple plays I watched from Chase Jones Chase Jones 6'0" | 160 lbs | DB Dell Rapids | 2023 , I saw a safety prospect that made good contact on the ball carrier when the ball came his way. He showed a good range in coverage, and I believe could develop even better range going into his senior season. Jones had a couple of pass breakups in the game, and when going up for the football showed confidence in his vertical and asserting good contact right on time vs. connecting with the receiver early and causing a penalty. We spotted Jones on our prospect list from the last update with limited film and now that we have evaluated him in person it should build up his rank slightly higher based on what we saw yesterday.
Bruce Galde | RB | Madison | 2023
Galde was a fun watch on Friday night in Madison. His running ability goes low to the ground and he’s an effective well put together (5’9 195) tailback that rushes inside thru the tackles that explodes out of the inside lanes with a strong burst. He also has a strong lower base to power thru contact when he has defenders at his ankles. Galde is a 2023 prospect way off the radar, with no film but is a hard-nosed running back that plays with grit at running back for the undefeated Madison Bulldogs. Hopefully can get some film up here soon!
Landon Ruesink Landon Ruesink ATH Dell Rapids | 2022 State | ATH | Dell Rapids | 2022
Ruesink was from my eyes, one of the brightest spots for the Quarriers last night. I just love how versatile this young man is, as he lines just about anywhere in the Dells Rapids offense. There wasn’t a ton of opportunities for the Dell Rapids offense, but Ruesink showed patience on his runs and hit the gaps where they were, and found some space to hit some sufficient yardage. I also enjoyed watching Landon defensively, as showed some high contact level at the defensive back along the edges of the football field. Ruesink is one of the most under-the-radar prospects in South Dakota, and I think will see his recruiting pick up with more opportunities soon as he holds just one offer right from an NAIA powerhouse in the Midwest.
Dillon Bickett | WR | Madison | 2022
Bickett is a prime example of playing with the heart over size. In the few games from the Madison Bulldogs, I’ve tuned into this year, you consistently hear his name on the radio or last night, scored the momentum setting touchdown to start the Bulldogs train to victory in the 1st quarter. He shows so much consistency and heart for this team you would be shocked to hear the frame he’s playing with. So many folks focus on the measurables of a player but not the heart, which is something Bickett plays with a lot of on the gridiron and I’m sure on the hardwood as well.
Jade Anstine | RB | Dell Rapids | 2023
We looked into the future of the Dell Rapids Quarriers with running back Jade Anstine outrunning the Bulldogs defenders for the Quarriers only touchdown on the night. Jade showed terrific speed and I liked his longevity of the run as he showed good stamina for the duration of his run. We will have to see if this young man can grab some more reps before the end of the season, as I was impressed with what I saw in his running ability even though it was a small sample size.
Game MVPs
Trey Smith | LB/K/P | Madison | 2022
Holy cow is there anything this young man can’t do?! Trey was in on darn near every tackle I watched from the Bulldogs defense last night. This is certainly a narrative we have heard before, as he had 15 tackle games a few weeks ago, and if I was actively counting last he hit that number or went over that against arch-rival Dell Rapids. Trey is not just in on every play, he’s right in the middle of the tackle on just about every play for the Bulldogs and has a great connect level on those tackles. He also takes care of the specialist duties for the Madison Bulldogs and from what I saw last night, handled them with solid poise. On one particular play last night that was called back, Smith had a rough snap go over his head and into the end zone. He picked it up and even under slight duress, launched a 45+ yard punt with great hang time. He also put several kickoffs in the endzone last night. If I am a local Dakotas program looking to fill out my 2022 roster with an emphasis on finding a high motor, under-the-radar, versatile, team-oriented player with great character, I would be certainly giving this young man a call.
Nate Ricke Nate Ricke QB Madison | 2022 State | QB | Madison | 2022
It was not that Nate Ricke Nate Ricke QB Madison | 2022 State scored four touchdowns for this Bulldogs offense, it’s how it was done in my eyes. I am a big fan of how quickly this young man can release the football. He also can burn you out with his legs, as watching his long sprint to the end zone he just hit the accelerator and took it 50+ yards for a touchdown without much slow-down speed at all towards the end of his run due to his excellent stamina. Ricke has also solid mobility outside of the pocket and shows great precision with his receivers on their routes. For 6’3 190 pound quarterback, there is a lot more athleticism in his step as he shows that he doesn’t just have great speed, he moves well laterally with his hips. Ricke is another prospect with grade-A character and I’m quite surprised more schools haven’t inquired about this young man especially when you watch the film below.
More Big Dogs from Last Night
Mike Peters | WR/DB | Madison | 2022
Peters was effective on both sides of the football, catching a touchdown pass from Ricke, and bringing in an interception on defense.
Jack Johnson | DL/OL | Madison | 2022
Johnson logged a key 3rd down sack forcing the Quarriers to have to punt and icing the momentum the Bulldogs had all night against rivaled Dell Rapids.
