This game will go a long way in deciding the region champion and playoff positioning. Hueytown comes into this game leading Alabama high school football in scoring offense averaging 53.6 points per game. McAdory has also scored 33 points or more in 6 of their 8 games on the year. Hueytown defeated McAdory 47-41 last season and leads the all-time series 27-12-1.
Last week: Hueytown won their region game at home against Northridge 75-55. McAdory lost their region game at Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa 30-7.
Players to Watch:
Earl Woods – Hueytown QB (2023)
As I mentioned earlier, Hueytown currently has the top scoring offense in the state and it all starts with Woods. The junior QB has had an incredible season so far as the starting QB for the Golden Gophers. Woods has over 2,500 total yards and 31 touchdowns through seven games. He is one of the most dynamic players in the state. I can’t wait to see how he finishes the season leading this explosive Hueytown offense. One of the rising QB’s in 2023 that will only continue to improve and develop.
Jaden Thomas Jaden Thomas 6'3" | 225 lbs | LB Hueytown | 2022 State AL – Hueytown LB/SS (2022)
Thomas is a hard hitting linebacker/safety for the Hueytown defense. I really like his game and his versatility defending the pass and the run is extremely valuable for the defense. The senior recently de-committed from the University of Massachusetts. There will be no shortage of teams vying for his commitment as he continues a strong final high school season. His motor and versatility is just a few reasons I think he’ll be successful at the next level.
DeAndre Coleman – Hueytown WR (2022)
Coleman is one of the best WR’s in the state and has been a huge playmaker for the Hueytown offense this season. He has recorded 814 yards in seven games while averaging over 22 yards per catch for 14 touchdowns. Coleman ranks in the top 6 in the state for receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. The senior has been heavily recruited by power 5 schools. The final three schools in his recruitment are Florida State, Virginia, and Coastal Carolina.
Jabari Strait – McAdory WR/DB (2022)
Strait is one of the best athletes on the McAdory roster and has displayed how well he can play on both sides of the ball this season. He is an outstanding route runner at receiver which allows him to gain separation from opposing defensive backs. At defensive back, he displays excellent ball skills while recording numerous pass breakups in the first three games of the season. Strait is an underrated player in the area and is a large reason the Yellow Jackets have had a bounce back season thus far.
Roderick Thomas – McAdory RB (2023)
Thomas is a strong, physical runner out of the backfield for McAdory. He has great size at 6’1 and 215 pounds. Thomas is difficult to tackle when he gets going downhill and I love the way he finishes runs with positive yards after contact. Thomas is a complete back that is effective in pass protection. Keep your eye on him as a riser in the class of 2023.
