I would certainly say, this last group of prospects were certainly some of my favorite I watched on the field as we closed out our time in South Dakota with a bang of a game in 11AAA! Enjoy.
Tayten Sanow Tayten Sanow 5'10" | 180 lbs | LB Sioux Falls Jefferson | 2023 State | LB | Sioux Falls Jefferson (2023)
Sanow showed some solid alertness on Saturday night recovering a fumble for a touchdown. He does a solid job at attacking the football from the edge to the inside. A linebacker prospect that has longer reach to stretch for the ball carrier on the outside lanes. I do think he can manage pass coverage, but from my eyes on film, he looked raw but had some skills that he can further develop on in the future. Sanow also shows a good downhill motor that can get some good leverage with his hands.
Jackson Geerts Jackson Geerts 6'2" | 230 lbs | DL SF Lincoln | 2022 State | DE | Sioux Falls Lincoln (2022)
Geerts is a prospect I got to watch over the summer at multiple prospect camps. Based on my viewing from Saturday, this young man has improved his skills in multiple areas when I watch the film. He shows a strong swim move and increased accelerator out of his stance. Geerts shows strong mobility around the edge and can twist in the opposite direction the offensive linemen is taking because of that mobility. He also shows active feet when moving laterally. Geerts got his first D2 offer over the summer and is due for more this Fall in my eyes.
Beau Giblin Beau Giblin 6'0" | 185 lbs | DB Sioux Falls Jefferson | 2023 State | DB | Sioux Falls Jefferson (2023)
Another DB prospect I had watched at prospect camps this summer, Beau Giblin Beau Giblin 6'0" | 185 lbs | DB Sioux Falls Jefferson | 2023 State logged nearly double-digit tackles on Saturday night and was always the first to make contact with the ball carrier. I really loved how Beau adjusts his direction, as he showed reactive instincts to make a play on the ball. He makes solid reads with his vision to identify where the football is and will crash to the next level with strong speed. Also, a lot to like on his contact level he attacks, as he has little trouble bringing down a bigger ball-carrier. There is a reason why we have Beau rated as one of the top DBs in the Dakotas, despite a loss that was a bright spot for this Cavaliers defense.
Tate Schafer Tate Schafer 6'1" | 180 lbs | QB Sioux Falls Lincoln | 2024 State SD | QB | Sioux Falls Lincoln (2024)
Schafer showed us exactly why on Saturday night he’s one of the top sophomore QBs on our board. I thought he showed a lot of poise for his age inside the pocket against the Cavaliers. Not only inside the pocket, but Tate can extend plays with his legs and shows a great hip turn when moving side to side. On film, I like Schafer’s ability to step up in the pocket and make solid throws all night, as he completed 80% of his passes and throw for over 220 passing yards on two touchdowns. He will need to fill out in the weight room over the coming years, but there is a lot to like about this young man’s potential with plenty of years remaining on his resume.
Jack Smith | RB/WR | Sioux Falls Lincoln (2024)
Smith was one the biggest stat stuffers we watched between both teams on Saturday night at Howard Wood Field. His versatility really was put on display as he logged six receptions for nearly 23 yards per catch, 183 total yards (135 receiving, 48 rush), and two touchdowns. Jack has limited film right now but shows that versatile skill set especially when the ball is in his hands. As a WR, he runs good routes and shows a good reach for his size. Smith shows also a good explosion to the outside when used at running back. I can’t wait until we can rewatch his film from this excellent performance he had against arch-rival Sioux Falls Jefferson.
Gabe Gutierrez Gabe Gutierrez 6'2" | 225 lbs | LB Sioux Falls Lincoln | 2023 State | LB/RB | Sioux Falls Lincoln (2023)
One of my favorite players to watch in person on Saturday night was Sioux Falls Lincoln’s, Gabe Gutierrez Gabe Gutierrez 6'2" | 225 lbs | LB Sioux Falls Lincoln | 2023 State . On both sides of the ball, this young man can be described as a wrecking ball. Defensively, he shows off a massive motor and a will to get to the football and just crush the ball carrier with authority on every tackle. At fullback, he showed so much durability throughout the night and was a 100-yard rusher that averaged nearly eight yards per carry. At 6’3 220 pounds, his stiff arm was tremendous and he has such a developed lower body. I didn’t have the count on his yards after contact but I’m sure out of that 100 yards he had a high number based on what I watched from the sidelines. Gabe also has Grade A character and you can tell is an excellent team player that plays with such high energy on and off the field. In my eyes, this young man is a Power 5 talent due to all those skillsets I mentioned and it’s no secret that the Big Ten is already on board with recruiting this young man. Stay tuned to our upcoming rankings, because this dude is going to climb far up our board.
