#TNHSFB: High Level Week 10 Matchups
In this article:
The regular season of high school football here in Tennessee is almost completed as we have two weeks remaining and these are two big weeks for several teams across the state.
Beginning tonight, region titles are up for grabs and several matchups pit teams against each other striving for the same goal, so something must give and it will be entertaining to see the results.
1. CPA (7-1) at Lipscomb Academy (7-1)
– The game of the week across the state is the Lions traveling a short distance over to Lipscomb in a game that will be for the region championship and the top spot in the upcoming D2-Class AA playoffs. These are two of the best overall teams in the entire state with both squads loaded with college football talent. The quarterback matchup between Cade Law Cade Law 6'1" | 210 lbs | QB CPA | 2022 State TN and Luther Richesson Luther Richesson 6'3" | 200 lbs | QB Lipscomb Academy | 2022 State TN will be entertaining to watch but it will be the defense for either team that wins this game.
2. Station Camp (7-1) at Green Hill (7-1)
– Massive inner region matchup tonight between the road Bison and home Hawks that could determine the region winner and playoff positioning. Major ramifications can come out of this game and it’s a game that neither program has been a part of in quite some time and for the Hawks, it’s the first ever. The biggest question headed into tonight’s game is which team can handle the moment and prosper under the bright lights? The team with the most poise and consistent game play wins this game.
3. Covington (6-1) at Haywood (8-0)
– This could be one of the more exciting, high scoring games across the state tonight as these are two highly talented teams that have shots at state titles. The Chargers rushing attack, led by juniors A.C. Mason-Young A.C. Mason-Young 5'11" | 180 lbs | DB Covington | 2023 State TN and Jamarion Dowell Jamarion Dowell 5'8" | 165 lbs | RB Covington | 2023 State TN will be of big focus for the Tomcats defense as slowing down the Covington rushing attack will be key to victory. Haywood has the defense with Jaylen Lewis Jaylen Lewis 6'1" | 175 lbs | DB Haywood | 2022 State TN , Camron Douglas Camron Douglas 6'3" | 300 lbs | DL Haywood | 2022 State TN and Anthony Brewer Anthony Brewer 6'0" | 205 lbs | LB Haywood | 2022 State TN to take over and shut down the road Chargers.
4. Knox. West (7-1) at Maryville (8-0)
– Possibly the biggest matchup out East for Week Nine has two of the top programs out of the greater Knoxville area going up against each other in what could be an entertaining game or a blow out in favor of the home Rebels. This is a tough task for the West football team as they are probably competing against the best team in the entire state and the Rebels are playing high caliber football at the right time. The hope is to keep the game close early for Knox. West and find a way in the end to pull off the upset
5. Ensworth (6-2) at Brentwood Academy (5-3)
– Two of the better private school programs square off tonight in Brentwood in what could be the most entertaining game of the night. The road Tigers have the star power in Shamar Porter Shamar Porter 6'3" | 200 lbs | WR Ensworth | 2023 State TN , Jacob Page Jacob Page 6'2" | 185 lbs | WR Blackman | 2023 State TN , Roland McGhee Roland McGhee 6'1" | 185 lbs | DB Ensworth | 2022 State TN and others but the home Eagles won’t be intimidated as they have played some top level talent this year and handled themselves well. If the Eagles can slow down the Tigers offense, they will have a shot to win this game but if they allow Levi Moore and his Ensworth offense to go off early, it could be a long night for Brentwood Academy.
6. Pope Prep (6-2) at Ravenwood (6-2)
– Prep RedzoneTN and CSS Scouting will be in attendance and this might be the most entertaining, highest scoring game of all tonight as you have two of the better offenses and two of the better quarterbacks ( Kenny Minchey Kenny Minchey 6'2" | 200 lbs | QB Pope Prep | 2023 State TN , Chris Parson Chris Parson 6'0" | 190 lbs | QB Ravenwood | 2023 State TN ) competing against other in a game that might not be settled till the final whistle. This is a big, non-region matchup late in the season that should help prepare either team for the upcoming playoffs, regardless of who walks away as the winner.
7. Springfield (6-2) at Portland (4-4)
– Coming off a huge win last week over previously undefeated Station Camp, the Portland Panthers have yet another top level home matchup as they welcome in tonight the Yellow Jackets from Springfield. Portland has played some stiff competition this year, so they won’t be intimidated but this could be a grind it out, murky game in the trenches that the Panthers must be ready to endure. If they are up for the challenge, the region title could be had with an upset victory tonight over the Yellow Jackets.
8. Rhea Co. (6-2) at Bradley Central (8-0)
– It’s been a magical season so far for the Bears but can they keep the ride going? Tonight we shall see as they face one of the better teams on their schedule in Rhea Co. and the road Eagles will be walking into the stadium prepared and ready to compete. The Eagles have a feisty defense, led by linebacker Drew Fisher Drew Fisher 5'11" | 210 lbs | LB Rhea Co. | 2022 TN that could give the Bears offense troubles tonight. If this becomes a low scoring game, Rhea Co. could be the victor but if Bradley scores early and often, the undefeated season could remain.
9. South Doyle (5-3) at Carter (5-3)
– These are two talented East Tennessee teams that are positioned for the playoffs but both teams could earn a higher seed with a win tonight. The Cherokees have a potent rushing attack, led by senior Shawn Gary Shawn Gary 5'11" | 185 lbs | RB South Doyle | 2022 State TN and a defense that has been playing at a high level here of late. The home Hornets have had some up and down weeks over the past few games but have the pieces in Chandler Wilson Chandler Wilson 5'10" | 180 lbs | QB Carter | 2023 TN and Brody Blankenship Brody Blankenship 6'2" | 200 lbs | DB Alcoa | 2024 State TN to not only win this game but help their Carter team roll deep into the playoffs.
10. DCA (7-1) at Grace Chrst. Academy (6-2)
– A sneaky, quiet game down in Franklin, DCA will be looking to wrap up the D2-Class A Middle Region championship tonight but they must not sleep on the home Lions. GCA has put together a strong season thus far and has been playing good football over the past several weeks, so their confidence is quite high right now. Wildcats quarterback Bradford Gaines will need a big night and help from the skill around him as GCA has a defense that will be itching to put Gaines on the ground. I could see this game going two ways as DCA could win in a blow out or the Lions might pull off the upset.
