After starting behind center the last two years, the Conway coach’s son approached his father in the offseason and believed it was time to switch. It would help the Tigers, and it would ultimately help his own college prospects.
In Friday’s 27-14 win at Socastee, it all came to fruition.
Terry finished the game with 267 yards and two touchdowns on eight receptions. All but one of the catches and 48 of the yards came before halftime, and all of them were somehow electric.
There was 19-yarder that washed away almost all of a long down-and-distance scenario on the opening series, then a 47-yard reception to cap that first drive in the end zone. He staged two more first-down receptions on the team’s second series.
On the team’s fourth series, just two plays after Socastee took its only lead of the game at 14-13 with 7:01 left before halftime, Terry got a step behind a defender, caught a Devin Grainger Devin Grainger 6'1" | 170 lbs | QB Conway | 2024 State SC pass in stride some 35 yards downfield and did the rest for an 80-yard touchdown. Add in a 35-yarder and an 18-yard catch before the break and then a 48-yard connection in the third quarter, and, yes, Terry had himself a night.
Oh, and about Grainger?
The sophomore’s development took one gigantic leap forward Friday. The younger brother of Georgia State quarterback Darren Grainger finished the night 12-of-18 for 306 yards and those two touchdowns to Terry.
Several of the lefty’s throws were completed while scrambling. He showed precision underneath and some hefty arm strength with four deep routes. The only knock was a couple of deep sacks, something attributed to a lack of experience.
Keep in mind, this was just his fifth career start.

What We Saw: Conway WR Terry has huge night What We Saw: Conway WR Terry has huge night Sr. has been utilizing an in-week competition for his trio of running backs in an effort to keep all three engaged, but to determine who gets the carries each Friday.
Seniors Israel Graham and Alex Glover and junior Rodney Huggins all got their shot against the Braves. Huggins, the team’s leading rusher so far, finished with 13 carries for 59 yards and a score. Graham had 10 for 56 and a touchdown. Glover had six for 36 and a two-point conversion.
All told, 12 of their combined 29 carries went for first downs and/or touchdowns.
The unsung hero of the night was certainly senior back-up center Nysire Lawrimore. Prior to kickoff, Terry Sr. raved about his 5-foot-8, 190-pounder, saying he was the toughest kid on the team. Lawrimore, stepping in for the regular starter who was out with an injury for the second straight week, played brilliantly. He got every snap back to Grainger on time, and he didn’t allow much pressure.
