Braeden Hemmelgarn – St. Marys – ATH – 5’10″ 185 lbs
Hemmelgarn plays all over the field for St. Marys and makes plays. He will line up in the slot, at RB, and then return kicks. He’s the best athlete they have and they like to get the ball in his hands. He took a kickoff back over 85-yards for a TD. He found a hole, made a guy miss, and turned on the jets. He was gone and immediately answered Badin’s points and tied the game up 7 to 7. He then made a handful of plays on offense. He took a screen pass, made a few guys miss, and then picked up over 30-yards. He finished the night with just under 200 scrimmage yards and the TD as they fell short and lost to Badin.
Chris Atkins – Eaton – QB – 6’0″ 160 lbs
Eaton found themselves with a tough matchup and Atkins was the main man in the crosshairs. He lit it up in the first half when he got going but it took him a bit. He’s best in the pocket when he’s able to sit back and read the defense. He’s a young developing QB who is getting better and understands the basic coverages that are thrown his way. He made some great throws and put the ball where only his guy could get it. He rushed for a score on the night on a zone-read. Eaton fell short on the night but it was a great measuring stick on how far Atkins can go and they have to be excited moving forward.
Te’Sean Smoot Te’Sean Smoot 5'11" | 180 lbs | QB Springfield | 2022 State OH – Springfield – QB – 6’1″ 175 lbs
Smoot is typically the best athlete on the field and he was again on Friday. He plays QB because good things happen when he touches the ball. He’s going to make guys miss in the open field when he runs it and has the arm strength to put the ball right on his guy. He scored the first TD on the night on a rushing TD where he called his own number, saw the outside was contained, bounced it back inside, and dove into the endzone. Smoot finished the night with over 200-yards and a TD on the night as they got the win over Findlay in the downpouring rain.
Ashton Ault – Bellbrook – RB
Ault had a huge game on Friday and it was a ton of fun to see. Not only did he have the longest run in Ohio on Friday, but he also scored on the run as well. There were a few runs of 80+ yards this week in Ohio that didn’t score. Ault on his 87-yard run hit paydirt. He took the handoff, bounced it to the outside, made a guy miss, threw off another defender, weaved back inside, and found the endzone. It was a great run and he did it with the help of his WRs who were downfield blocking. He busted a few more longer runs on the night and finished the night with over 150-yards rushing and his TD on the night as Bellbrook got the win and is moving forward.
