There are plenty of small-town backs who had breakout seasons and proved once again that talent comes from everywhere in the peach state. Even at smaller schools, if you put up numbers, you’ll get recognized.
One of the biggest sleeper backs in Atlanta, Brown has been putting on a show this year and is one of the state’s leading rushers at the moment. Every time he touches the ball this season, something good happens. The tackle-breaking 5-foot-10 200-pounder has no problem bowling through would-be tackles and has shown he also has enough speed to break off a long run on any particular play. He’s playing like one of the best senior backs in Atlanta as he’s rushed for over 200 yards in 7 of his last 8 games. He’s averaging 207 yards a game and has rushed for 29 touchdowns this fall. He’s absolutely a junior back who could get some looks at the next level.
It’s been an incredible season for the Northwest Georgia back, and he’s coming off a career night in last Friday’s win, taking him towards the top of the rushing leader board. A tough, bruising runner, Brown is a 5-foot-11 205-pounder who ran wild last weekend for 407 yards and seven touchdowns. He’s a true down-hill runner but has enough speed to get to the edge and get upfield. He picks up tough yards between the tackles and has more than enough speed to fly past smaller defenders/ He dominates in his small town with pure size, speed, and athleticism. On the season, Brown has rushed for 1,721 yards and 28 touchdowns.
Johne’ss Davis – Athens Christian
One of the toughest runners in the state, the Athens native is a strong, bowling ball of a back that has rumbled through defenses all year, leading his team to a 5-3 record. He was dominant last year, and now the small-school back has proved why he’s one of the toughest backs to bring down. Like Brown, Davis can overpower smaller defenders and has enough speed to get behind them as well. He’s running through his region, totaling 1,425 yards and 22 touchdowns so far this season. He’s rushed for over 250 yards three times this year and has only gone for less than 100 yards just twice. He’s also caught 11 passes for 278 yards and one touchdown.
Jordan Triplett – Frederica Academy
There could be a young star in the making in the.Savannah area, and it’s the sophomore back at Frederica Academy. Triplett is an excellent runner who took the region by storm last year as a freshman, and he’s improved this year in year two. The 6-foot-0 185-pounder is a big play waiting to happen with great speed and strength for his size. He knows how to make a defender miss, he’s tough to tackle for just one defender, and was a true game-changer last season. Even as a sophomore, Triplett has put the offense on his back this season, rushing 225 times already for 1,405 yards and 22 touchdowns. His biggest game of the season came against St. Andrews where he rushed for over 440 yards and six touchdowns.
Jahvon Butler – Bleckley County
One of the top overall backs in Middle Georgia, Butler has been unstoppable this season as a junior. Another tackle-breaking back with burst and agility, Butler can hurt defenses in multiple ways. He’s quick and agile but he’s also built well at 5-foot-10 205-pounds. If you don’t properly, you aren’t getting Butler to the ground. He’s been productive all season, rushing for 1,333 yards and 15 touchdown. He’s rushed for over 100 yards in seven games this season including a 236-yard game and two scores last weekend against Southwest. He’s absolutely a 2023 back to know about.
