The St. John’s Cadets completed a perfect season, 11-0, with a 30-14 win over Good Counsel in the WCAC championship game. The Cadets and Falcons went back and forth in this contest, and it was a quintessential rivalry matchup at its finest. In the end, St. Johns’ elite offense proved to be too much, as they often did this season, and Good Counsel simply could not stop the Cadet receivers. Let’s take a closer look at the top offensive performers from both teams in this championship matchup.
ST. JOHN’S 30
2022 6’1 190 QB – Wyatt Hagan Wyatt Hagan 6'1" | 190 lbs | QB St. John's | 2022 State MD
Wyatt Hagan Wyatt Hagan 6'1" | 190 lbs | QB St. John's | 2022 State MD played at an elite level all season long, and the WCAC championship game was no different. The First Team All-WCAC quarterback threw for 233 yards and four touchdowns in this contest, and he also completed 15 of 28 passes. Hagan did throw an interception, one of only three this season, but he made up for it by going 5 for 11 on third down conversions. Hagan also threw his four touchdown passes to three different receivers. The future D1 quarterback was absolutely paramount to the Cadets’ success this year. He proved just that in the championship game. He is going to do big things, and he is now and forever a St. John’s legend for quarterbacking a perfect season.
2022 6’4 180 WR – DJ Linkins DJ Linkins 6'4" | 195 lbs | WR St. John's | 2022 State MD
There was not a receiver in the entire DMV area that was better than DJ Linkins DJ Linkins 6'4" | 195 lbs | WR St. John's | 2022 State MD this season. Linkins put up monster receiving numbers, 10 touchdowns and nearly 600 yards, and he also developed his game as an elite blocker. He absolutely never turned the ball over this year, and he was extremely dependable in the red zone. The unanimous First Team All-WCAC receiver finished off a career year with a bang in the championship game, scoring two touchdowns on three catches, and he truly cemented his legacy as one of the greatest St. John’s wide receivers in school history.
2023 6’1 180 WR – Sean Williams
Sean Williams was one of the most consistent receivers in the WCAC this year. His high number of targets remained steady all season, and his chemistry with his quarterback, Wyatt Hagan Wyatt Hagan 6'1" | 190 lbs | QB St. John's | 2022 State MD , only improved with every game. The First Team All-WCAC receiver scored a huge twenty yard touchdown against Good Counsel in the championship, and Williams was able to make the catch regardless of there being a defensive pass interference flag thrown on the play. Sean Williams is only a Junior, which is mind-blowing because he has the maturity and productivity of a Senior. Sean Williams will most definitely command a larger receiving role next season, but it will be tough to compete with his numbers from this year. If anyone can do it, however, it’s Sean Williams.
2023 6’2 190 WR – Asa Gregg
Asa Gregg should be named the breakout player of the year for St. John’s because he absolutely deserves it. Gregg earned WCAC All-Conference Honorable Mention honors this season, and he also scored the opening touchdown in the championship game. Gregg caught a short pass in front of the end zone, and he then muscled his way in for the score. The Junior pass catcher plays with the heart and energy of a college player already, and there’s just no stopping him once he gets going. The future of St. Johns’ receiving corps is extremely bright, with Asa Gregg leading the charge.
2024 5’11 175 RB – Da’juan Riggs
There wasn’t a better backup running back in the WCAC than Da’juan Riggs this season. Riggs earned Second Team All-WCAC honors, even while playing behind Jamar Curtis Jamar Curtis 5'6" | 170 lbs | RB St. John's (DC) | 2022 State MD in every single game. Riggs was an integral part of St. Johns’ 120 rushing yards in the championship game, and he also helped protect Wyatt Hagan Wyatt Hagan 6'1" | 190 lbs | QB St. John's | 2022 State MD in the backfield. The Sophomore running back has an extremely bright future with St. John’s, and it should not surprise anyone to see him take on a larger role in the backfield next season.
GOOD COUNSEL 14
2024 6’5 175 QB – Frankie Weaver
There’s no question that Frankie Weaver has earned the starting quarterback position at Good Counsel. The Sophomore quarterback won 5 of Good Counsel’s last 8 games, and two of those losses were against the WCAC champions- St. John’s. In the championship game, Weaver played a decent game, and he kept the Falcons in it early, connecting with Shane Carroll on a short yardage touchdown pass. While they lost in the end, Good Counsel has a very young roster, and this championship loss could very much pay off in the long run. Frankie Weaver is one of the best quarterbacks in the 2024 class, and he must be recognized as such.
2024 6’0 180 RB – Dilin Jones
Dilin Jones was named First Team All-WCAC this season, and with the trajectory he is on right now he is going to be a WCAC superstar. Jones ran for a 62 yard touchdown in the championship, and he was seemingly untouched on the play. His ability to burst through gaps in the offensive line is second to none, and this is represented by his average of more than five yards per carry. He has incredible size for the running back position, which also makes him extremely difficult to tackle. Dilin Jones is the future at running back for Good Counsel, and it will be more than exciting to watch him as a starter during his Junior season next year.
2022 6’1 165 WR – Shane Carroll
Shane Carroll finished the season as Good Counsel’s top wide receiver. Carroll caught a thirty yard touchdown to open up the scoring for the Falcons in the championship, and his dynamic route running ability was on full display on the play. The Senior wideout was absolutely one of the premier route runners in the WCAC this year, and he never drops a pass or turns the ball over. Scouts should not focus on Carroll’s height and or weight when analyzing him, but rather his speed and his hands. Shane Carroll possesses incredible skill at the receiver position, and there are very few receivers who are as tough as Carroll. It will be very exciting to watch him play at the college level where he can absolutely make a big impact.
