But before doing so, it will be important to look back at this past season and we start that off today with our 2021 season recaps. Over the next few weeks and months, we’ll be looking at programs throughout the state, their respective 2021 seasons, and players that stood out. To start off our 2021 season recaps, we begin in District 3 with the Wyomissing Spartans.
The Spartans ran through their regular season in dominating fashion, rarely leaving any shadows of a doubt of who the better team was on the field any given night. Their perfect 10-0 regular season including a 41-21 win over Southern Columbia in October that snapped the Tigers’ 93-game win streak. After their regular season, Wyomissing started a hopeful state title run with a 35-14 win over Scranton Prep before completing dominating one of the state’s most talented teams in Neumann-Goretti 42-6.
The Spartans would get to Hershey and take on Central Valley in the PIAA 3A State Championship game for the second straight season. The two undefeated powers would barely give an inch defensively, but unfortunately for the Spartans, they would come out on the losing side of a 7-0 instant classic. Despite the loss in the state championship game, Wyomissing from start to finish was one of the top teams in the entire state regardless of class. Head coach Bob Wolfrum continues to have the program moving like a machine and they’ll have a great chance at returning to Hershey in 2022.
Now, let’s look at some of the key players for the Spartans this season that we have ranked in our 2022 and 2023 player rankings.
2022 Ranked Players:
No. 77 TE Aiden Mack Aiden Mack 6'4" | 225 lbs | TE Wyomissing | 2022 State PA : Signed to play at the University of Richmond, Mack has a nice frame at 6-foot-4 but will need some time to grow into that frame at just 200-pounds. That being said, the foundation is there for Mack to be a solid tight end at the next level. By playing in Wyomissing’s Wing-T offense, Mack already has great blocking skills that should allow him to get on the field earlier than possibly expected and shows quality receiving skills in his brief opportunities. If he can continue to develop his receiving skills, he has a great chance to become a playmaker in the middle of the field for Richmond in the future.
No. 276 DB Nevin Carter Nevin Carter 6'4" | 190 lbs | DB Wyomissing | 2022 State PA : At 6-foot-4, Carter is quite big for a cornerback so I do wonder if a move to linebacker is in the cards once he gets to the next level. Either way, Carter shows quality playing recognition and has the ability to change direction quickly and adapt to the play as it develops whether it’s through the air or on the ground. Despite being a consistently hard hitter, he also ensures that he wraps up opposing ball carries and limits the chances of broken tackles, getting them to the ground quickly.
No. 288 LB Tommy Grabowski Tommy Grabowski 6'0" | 200 lbs | LB Wyomissing | 2022 State PA : Grabowski made headlines last weekend when his one-handed interception in the state title game resulted in him earning the No.3 spot on ESPN’s Top 10 countdown the next day. That being said, Grabowski has shown plenty of upside throughout his career and especially this season for Wyomissing. A versatile player for the Spartans, Grabowski lined up at multiple positions including linebacker, running back, and long-snapper. He’s a high motor player who is willing to do whatever it takes to put his team in the best position to win. As a running back, he shows strong vision and agility for a player his size while as a linebacker, he has strong play recognition and takes smart and quality routes to the ball carrier.
“Tommy Grabowski sounds like he plays high school football in Pennsylvania.” 😂
Congrats @T_Grabowski_22 from @WyoFootball on making @SportsCenter top 10 plays! pic.twitter.com/J1pJfTyHFy

No. 301 DL Jamhi Jackson Jamhi Jackson 6'3" | 240 lbs | DL Wyomissing | 2022 State PA : A nice size defensive end, Jackson has a nice combination of size and athleticism that makes him an imposing defender to go up against. Despite being close to 250-pounds, Jackson carries his weight well. He’ll need to refine his techniques and get quicker on his first step but there’s a lot to work with, with Jackson and could turn into quite the defensive lineman down the road.
No. 317 LB Rory Filoon Rory Filoon 6'3" | 195 lbs | LB Wyomissing | 2022 State PA : Filoon is a nice-sized linebacker who plays well in his means. He doesn’t necessarily feel the need to try and always make the flashy play but is smart and calm in his approach, overall, he shows terrific football IQ. What he may not have physically, he makes up for with his football IQ. Just a really solid player overall, he may not be the star of defense but you’ll always find him right around the ball and in a position to make and finish plays.
No.371 OL Preston Aikman Preston Aikman 5'11" | 240 lbs | OL Wyomissing | 2022 State PA : Committed to Dennison, Aikman is a nice interior offensive line prospect. With a few years of development, he should be able to develop into a quality player for Dennison.
No.529 LB Jack Miller Jack Miller 6'0" | 200 lbs | LB Wyomissing | 2022 State PA : Miller is quite a fun player to watch on tape, he has a great first step and is a menace in the pass rush, often breaking through the gap before opposing offensive lines even have a chance to stop him. When Wyomissing sends him on a blitz, he gets home nearly every time and at the very least is putting opposing quarterbacks under pressure. At the worst, he could find a role as a pass-rushing specialist. Overall, Miller’s a really good athlete who as he continues to develop could become quite the steal for a program.
2023 Ranked Players
No. 4 OL Jven Williams: Very few players in the Keystone State blew up this season as Jven Williams did. The 6-foot-5, a 310-pound offensive lineman is arguably the best offensive lineman in the entire state regardless of class and has the potential to not just become the top player in the state over the next year but possibly one of the truly elite players in the entire country. Williams already has Power Five level size and combines that with quickness, a rarity to see with a kid his size. He’s already amassed more than a dozen scholarship offers including Michigan, Michigan State, Ole Miss, and Pittsburgh.
No. 465 K Ian Levering Ian Levering 5'11" | 195 lbs | K Wyomissing | 2023 State PA : Levering was nearly perfect for Wyomissing this season, making all three of his field-goal attempts while hitting 72-of-75 extra-point attempts. He has nice form and solid leg speed that allows him to get good leverage and distance on his kicks.
No. 507 ATH Drew Eisenhower Drew Eisenhower 5'10" | 185 lbs | ATH Wyomissing | 2023 State PA : Eisenhower plays both running back and corner for Wyomissing and has shown production at both positions. At running back, he’s a strong downhill runner who’s tough to bring down, showing both good speed and vision, he’s not going to run by everyone but once he sees a hole, he has a nice burst that allows him to get into the open field. At corner, he shows a strong ability to diagnose plays, read the quarterbacks’ eyes, often allowing him to get to ball carriers, receivers, and to the ball in general quickly.
