Player rankings are based on a variety of factors that include on-field performance and recruiting stock.
Below is a quick glimpse at a few of the changes made in the 2022 rankings, beginning with the quarterbacks.
The number-one QB spot has been claimed by Longmont’s Keegan Patterson Keegan Patterson 6'0" | 180 lbs | QB Longmont | 2022 State CO whose senior performance (3,609 yds – 28 TDs – 846 rush yds – 20 TDs) elevated him from the sixth-ranked QB and earned him the top spot in the state’s passing leaderboards. In addition to finishing just shy of 4,500 yards passing and rushing, Patterson also tallied 44 total tackles on defense and fumble recovery that he returned for a 40-yard touchdown.
The second-ranked quarterback is Cherokee Trail’s Logan Brook Logan Brook 6'4" | 160 lbs | QB Cherokee Trail | 2022 State CO who is a newcomer to the state’s rankings. The 6-foot-4 gunslinger put up outstanding numbers (3,228 yds – 36 TDs – 236 rush yds – 1TD) as he helped to lead his team to a playoff appearance. Something to note about Brook’s fantastic season is that he threw the ball a total of 370 times and only had four interceptions.
The top-two running backs, Gavin Sawchuk Gavin Sawchuk RB Valor Christian | 2022 State CO (1st) and Braelon Tate Braelon Tate 5'9" | 175 lbs | RB Legacy | 2022 State CO (2nd), are still at the top of the list. However, Legend’s Bryce Vaz Bryce Vaz 5'9" | 180 lbs | RB Legend | 2022 State CO is a new addition to the list who has earned himself the third spot in the RB rankings. Vaz’s performance in the first round of the playoffs during his junior year (31 car – 310 yds – 6 TDs) is how he introduced himself to many onlookers in the state. He finished his senior season as one of the top rushers in the state, tallying 1,716 yards and 24 touchdowns. He had a total of 306 receiving yards with two touchdowns, showing that he can be a viable option in the passing game. Vaz also completed two of his three pass attempts with two of them resulting in touchdowns.
Cherry Creek wide receiver Ky Oday Ky Oday 5'10" | WR Cherry Creek | 2022 State CO has climbed the rankings and elevated his position from fifth to second, while Fairview’s Grant Page Grant Page WR Fairview | 2022 State CO still remains at the top. The defensive back list has also seen a change in its top-five with Thomas Jefferson’s Randy Yeboah Randy Yeboah 5'11" | 170 lbs | DB Thomas Jefferson | 2022 State CO moving from 17th to fourth.
Very little has changed for the top players in the offensive line category, while the defensive line has added Arapahoe’s edge rusher Jackson Adams Jackson Adams 6'4" | 230 lbs | DL Arapahoe | 2022 State CO (4th) to the top five.
The top five players in the athlete category have undergone extensive reconstruction. Palmer Ridge’s Anthony Costanzo Anthony Costanzo 6'3" | 210 lbs | ATH Palmer Ridge | 2022 State CO still resides in the number-one spot, but the following four have seen significant changes. Castle View’s Blake Haggerty Blake Haggerty 6'0" | 185 lbs | ATH Castle View | 2022 State CO (2nd), Dakota Ridge’s Dante Capolungo Dante Capolungo 5'10" | 170 lbs | ATH Dakota Ridge | 2022 State CO (3rd), and Holy Family’s Jacob Lawver Jacob Lawver 5'10" | 185 lbs | ATH Holy Family | 2022 State CO (4th) have worked their way to the top list
Chaparral’s Kylan Wilson Kylan Wilson 5'11" | 185 lbs | ATH Chaparral | 2022 State CO has moved up to the fifth spot in the ATH category after putting on a phenomenal senior performance. He threw for 1,608 yards with 18 touchdowns, rushed for 1,064 yards and 14 touchdowns, caught one reception for a 60-yard touchdown, made 81 total tackles, four interceptions, one pick-six, two pass breakups, one fumble recovery, and one blocked field goal.
