We’ve got an insane matchup for the Class 6A State Championship between Hueytown (13-1) and Clay-Chalkville (14-0) on December 3rd at UAB’s Protective Stadium. Hueytown and Clay-Chalkville have the two top scoring offenses in Alabama high school football averaging 53 PPG and 48.6 PPG respectively. These two teams met in week 2 of the regular season with Clay-Chalkville winning that game 57-40 at home. I expect another high scoring game between these two teams again.
Semi-final recap:
Clay-Chalkville won at Mountain Brook 24-18 on a game winning run in the final minutes by RB Edward Osley. The Cougars are looking for their first state title since 2014.
Hueytown defeated region foe Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa 44-16 to reach their first state title game in school history. The Gophers are looking to avenge their only loss of the season.
Players to Watch:
Earl Woods – Hueytown QB
You don’t have the highest scoring offense in the state without a great quarterback and that is exactly what Hueytown has in Woods. The junior has put up video game numbers in his first season as QB for the Gophers tallying 2,826 yards and 30 touchdowns through the air while adding 2.014 yards and 35 touchdowns on the ground. In my opinion, there is not another QB with his skill set in the state. Woods is so dynamic both throwing and running that you have to account for him at all times.

The Cougars also have a big time player at QB in 2022 Louisville commit Khalib Johnson Khalib Johnson 6'2" | 200 lbs | QB Clay-Chalkville | 2022 State AL . Johnson has thrown for 3,107 yards and 38 touchdowns. He is a great quarterback for this offense that strives in all facets of the passing and running game. Johnson has great mobility to go along with a strong arm that has stressed defenses vertically all season long.
Edward Osley – Clay-Chalkville RB
I’ve said all season that Osley is one of the most underrated running backs in the state. The senior produced a huge season tallying 1,933 yards on 238 carries with 28 touchdowns. College coaches need to get on Osley because he will be a steal at the next level. He makes the Cougars offense extremely balanced and a key reason they averaged over 48 PPG this season.
DeAndre Coleman – Hueytown WR
Coleman has led the Hueytown receiving core with 70 receptions, 1619 yards, and 19 touchdowns this season. The senior has added 29 carries for 247 yards and 9 touchdowns on the ground. Coleman is a tall and physical receiver that excels in winning one-on-one matchups on the outside. He has been one of the top receivers in the state this year and will be playing collegiate football at Coastal Carolina next season.
