Destination Fort Lauderdale – Week 2 State Championships

As three games are now in the books for the 2021 state championship series in the state of Florida, it’s time for the “big boys” to step up to the plate.
With three classifications crowned in 1A (Madison County), 2A (Jacksonville Trinity Christian) and 3A (Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna), it is time to turn the attention to DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale. With 10 teams and five games over three days – our final rankings will be finished, and there are five teams still in the hunt in last week of the season.
Like we do each and every week during the year, we continue to bring you a Top 25 – and when the season comes to an end – we will have our champion and final list.
Here is a look at the latest ranking from Florida Prep Redzone, heading into the small school state championships:
1. Tampa Jesuit (6A, 14-0). Pensacola Pine Forest this Saturday, Dec. 18, 7 p.m. at DRV PNK Stadium Fort Lauderdale.
2. Miami Central (5A, 11-2). Merritt Island this Friday, Dec. 17, 1 p.m. at DRV PNK Stadium Fort Lauderdale.
3. Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas (7A, 13-1). The unbeaten Tampa Bay Tech game this Friday, Dec. 17, 7 p.m. at DRV PNK Stadium Fort Lauderdale.
4. Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna (3A, 12-1). Finished the season off with a 21-0 win over Tampa Berkeley Prep and a fourth state title in five years. NEXT OPPONENT: The Lions will play in Las Vegas this Friday night (10:30) against Highland, Arizona in the Geico Bowl.
5. Bradenton IMG Academy (Independent, 9-1). SEASON IS FINISHED.
6. Venice (8A, 13-1). Streaking Apopka this Saturday, Dec. 18, 1 p.m. at DRV PNK Stadium Fort Lauderdale.
7. Tampa Bay Tech (7A, 14-0). The nationally-rated St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders this Friday, Dec. 17, 1 p.m. at DRV PNK Stadium Fort Lauderdale.
8. Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons (4A, 10-2). The streaking Cocoa Tigers this Thursday, Dec. 16, 7 p.m. at DRV PNK Stadium Fort Lauderdale.
9. Cocoa (4A, 11-1). The defending 4A state champion Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs this Thursday, Dec. 16, 7 p.m. at DRV PNK Stadium Fort Lauderdale.
10. Apopka (8A, 10-2). The nationally-rated and red-hot Venice Indians this Saturday, Dec. 18, 1 p.m. at DRV PNK Stadium Fort Lauderdale.
11. Merritt Island (5A, 13-1). The two-time defending state champion Miami Central Rockets this Friday, Dec. 17, 1 p.m. at DRV PNK Stadium Fort Lauderdale.
12. Pensacola Pine Forest (6A, 13-1). The unbeaten and No. 1 Tampa Jesuit Tigers this Saturday, Dec. 18, 7 p.m. at DRV PNK Stadium Fort Lauderdale.
13. Jacksonville Trinity Christian (2A, 10-4). It doesn’t matter where they play, this program finds a way to win, and for the second straight year, the Conquerors won a state crown. 3A last year and a 41-23 win over two-time defending 2A state champion Champagnat Catholic this year.
14. Madison County (1A, 11-3). The Cowboys returned to the podium for the fourth time in five years, beating previously unbeaten Hawthorne, 13-12.
15. Tampa Berkeley Prep (3A, 12-1). Definitely one of the top programs in the state this season, but ran into one of the best in the nation, losing to Chaminade-Madonna, 21-0, in the state title game.
16. Hawthorne (1A, 10-1). It wasn’t meant to be for the Hornets once again this season as they dropped a heart-wrenching 13-12 decision to Madison County. Outstanding season for this program.
17. Hialeah Champagnat Catholic (2A, 10-3). Appearing in their sixth consecutive state title game, the Lions fell short to a very talented Trinity Christian team, 41-23.
18. Port St. Lucie Treasure Coast (8A, 10-2). SEASON IS FINISHED.
19. Gainesville Buchholz (7A, 12-2). SEASON IS FINISHED.
20. Miami Northwestern (6A, 10-4). SEASON IS FINISHED.
21. Tallahassee Florida State University High (3A, 11-2). SEASON IS FINISHED.
22. Lakeland Christian (3A, 11-1). SEASON IS FINISHED.
23. Jacksonville Bolles (4A, 8-3). SEASON IS FINISHED.
24. Miami Christopher Columbus (8A, 9-4). SEASON IS FINISHED.
25. Orlando Jones (6A, 11-3). SEASON IS FINISHED.
