In a thrilling back-and-forth game, the Mavericks eventually fell 21-17 to the Fort Morgan Mustangs, but it was still a good season thanks to some great talent on the roster. A few of those players shined in the final game and earned a game ball for their efforts.
Corby Tecu Corby Tecu 6'2" | 200 lbs | ATH Mead | 2022 State CO , 2022, 6’2, 218, RB/LB
Tecu was one of the best players on the field for the entire game Saturday. He is a big, physical running back who runs downhill and gets the tough yards on inside runs for the Mavericks. He scored two touchdowns in short-yardage situations. If he breaks free to the second level, he has the speed to take off for a big run as well. The physical streak he runs with translates on the other side of the ball from his linebacker spot, as he is a tough player to block up front. Tecu is committed to play lacrosse at Drexel University.
Zach Dibella, 2023, 6’3, 238, OL/DL
One of two key interior offensive lineman that Mead likes to run behind, Dibella is a versatile guard. He pulls and does a good job with kickout blocks and going up the hole to seal the edge at the linebacker spot. When engaged, he showed the ability to drive a defender off of his point and even recorded a few pancake blocks for his efforts. There were also some double-team blocks that were very effective from him in the game. Dibella moves well and has decent size in the middle of the line, and with one more year of eligibility he could grow into a collegiate prospect.
Joseph Robenhorst, 2023, 6’0, 200, OL/DL
The other offensive guard who had a busy game, he pulled quite a bit and was a lead blocker for the guys behind him throughout the game. Just like Dibella, he was versatile on his pulls, doing a good job getting kick outs on the trap schemes or going up the hole and sealing the edge at the linebacker spot. He plays with good leverage getting into his blocks, which allows him to get some push. He plays with a great motor as well, and the compete level helps him take on guys who may be bigger than him.
Evan Morris, 2022, 5’11, 215, RB/DE
Morris is a two-way player who had some nice moments on both sides of the ball in the game. As a running back, he was the guy who Mead tried to get to the outside, but he can go up the middle and get the tough yards as well. He did a good job lowering the shoulder at the point of contact when he was able to run downhill. Then on defense, he did a good job getting some pressure from the edge, and he was able to tip a pass from the Fort Morgan quarterback that resulted in an interception for his teammate late in the first half. He is versatile and made plays on both sides of the ball for Mead all season long.
