Continue ReadingLBJ Austin and Fredericksburg are set to face off in a rematch at 3 p.m. on Saturday. The last time these two teams faced each other, LBJ Austin stunned Fredericksburg, 40-14. These are two teams with high-scoring offenses usually and given how last time went, this matchup should prove to be interesting. These are the players to watch.
1. Sedrick Alexander Sedrick Alexander 5'10" | 195 lbs | RB LBJ | 2023 State TX (JR-RB) – LBJ Austin High School (Austin, TX)
2021 Season: 871 rushing yards, 10 rushing touchdowns
Alexander has been on a tear all season, scoring in almost every game. He also has almost rushed for more than 100 yards in every game reported on MaxPreps. Overall, Alexander is an absolute beast from the backfield and is incredibly hard to stop. Still, he does face a tough defense and he will have to be ready for that, but he has faced teams in the past like Liberty Hill. So, Alexander is up to the occasion.
2. Trent Leary (SR-WR) – LBJ Austin High School (Austin, TX)
2021 Season: 25 receptions, 510 receiving yards, 8 receiving touchdowns
Leary is one of the main offensive stars for LBJ Austin. He is near perfect when in scoring position and has made a lot of terrific catches throughout the year. He has excellent hands and route-running abilities. He can make any defense pay and if Fredericksburg is not up to the occasion he can smoke any defensive back covering him.
3. Jesse Leija (JR-RB) – Fredericksburg High School (Fredericksburg, TX)
2021 Season: 1,238 rushing yards, 12 rushing touchdowns
Leija is amongst the best of running backs in Central Texas. He scores like it is nothing, but because of his high octane performances, he has helped Fredericksburg to have a great season. Leija is one of the main threats for LBJ Austin to account for. The last time these two teams faced off, Leija was kept to just 28 yards rushing.
4. Cole Immel (SR-QB) – Fredericksburg High School (Fredericksburg, TX)
2021 Season: 2,088 passing yards, 26 passing touchdowns, 6 interceptions, 364 rushing yards, 8 rushing touchdowns
When these two teams faced off earlier in the season, Immel was kept to just 148 yards passing and one touchdown. However, he is accurate, has great awareness, and can run when necessary. He is especially deadly in the redzone. With the combination of Immel and Leija, Fredericksburg’s rushing attack can prove to be fatal especially after building off of the last matchup between these two.
5. Mason Reeh (SR-WR) – Fredericksburg High School (Fredericksburg, TX)
2021 Season: 45 receptions, 636 receiving yards, 9 receiving touchdowns
However, if Immel does go to the air it is usually to Reeh. He is much like Leary, an athlete who has proven to be quite effective when scoring. Much in the same, Reeh has great hands and can find the open spots necessary. While he has not stacked a lot of yardage, he has made it count with the number of touchdowns. In the end, he makes the plays for his team which has more than often led to a Fredericksburg win.
6. James Sebera (SR-DL/LB) – Fredericksburg High School (Fredericksburg, TX)
2021 Season: 81 total tackles, 44 solo tackles, 13 tackles for a loss, 6 sacks, 1 interception, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery
On the defensive side, Sebera has been a beast. Not only is he disruptive for the quarterback, but he can catch interceptions as well. Sebera is a jack-of-all-trades type of athlete that can do it all when it counts. For LBJ Austin, the team will need to be prepared to face a lot of disruption. Otherwise, Fredericksburg could stomp out what is usually a fast-scoring offense. That did not prove to be the case last time, but Fredericksburg will be looking to make sure that does not happen again.
