4A State Championship
Graham Kapowsin 44 vs Lake Stevens 7
Joshua Wood Joshua Wood 6'3" | 185 lbs | QB Graham-Kapowsin | 2022 State WA , 2022, QB, Graham-Kapowsin
The Eastern Washington commit and recently voted MaxPreps Washington Football Player of the Year helped lead a convincing 44 to 7 victory over Lake Stevens in the 4A championship. The dual-threat QB did most of his damage on the ground rushing for 172 yards with 2 touchdowns on 11 carries. Usually puts up points with his arm through the air but was able to show off his athleticism with his best rushing performance of the season. He’s a natural passer and possesses a lot of tools to be successful at the college level.
Zack Lee, 2022, RB, Graham-Kapowsin
Lee crossed the 1,000 yard mark with a big time performance in the final, rushing for nearly 200 yards and 2 touchdowns on 20 carries. The senior is the leader in the talented and crowded Graham-Kapowsin backfield. He’s a dart as he bursts through the hole with good leverage and balance. Plus vision and strength upon contact to break tackles at the LOS and in the secondary. He’s a complete back that is a competitor and high effort player as a ball carrier and blocker.
Jalen Davenport Jalen Davenport 5'8" | 190 lbs | RB Curtis | 2023 State WA , 2023, RB, Graham-Kapowsin
The big 5’10” 220 lb. RB/LB filled the stat sheet on both sides of the ball, carrying it 9 times for 80 yards and racking up 12 total tackles on defense. Possesses a strong and well-built frame that allows him to overpower opponents at the contact point on both sides of the ball. He runs well and flashes good short area quickness to burst away from defenders or close the gap on ball carriers. D1 talent with a great skillset that will transition well to the college level on either side of the ball.
Jordon Woods, 2022, DB, Graham-Kapowsin
The rangy safety totaled 9 tackles as a deep secondary defender. He does a great job playing sideline to sideline while being a playmaker in both coverage and run support. Shows good eye discipline and the instincts/anticipation to trigger quickly and make a play on the ball. Not the biggest guy but he’s a very reliable open field tackler that never shies away from contact. Played some of his best ball in the playoffs this season.
Cameron Sonnenfeld, 2022, DB, Graham-Kapowsin
Sonnenfeld is a smart and instinctive Strong Safety that totaled 10 tackles in the championship game. He’s very technically sound and calculated with his movement, limiting his false steps and putting himself in position to make a play. Does a great job disengaging and shedding blockers while he locates the ball carrier. Love his tough, physical, and aggressive style of play.
Michael Toa, 2024, FB, Graham-Kapowsin
The sophomore ran for 30 yards and two touchdowns on seven carries. At 5’11” 245 lbs. he’s a bruising short yardage specialist. Strong lower half to drive his legs through contact and push the pile to pick up tough yards between the tackles. Also came on strong during the playoff run and will look to build on it on both sides of the ball over the next several seasons.
3A State Championship
Bellevue 17 vs Kennewick 13
William Wang William Wang 5'8" | 185 lbs | RB Bellevue | 2022 WA , RB, 2022, Bellevue
Wang was one of the state’s leading rushers on the season and capped the season going off for 245 yards and two touchdowns in the 17-13 win over Kennewick for the 3A title. He’s downhill back with great field vision and balance upon contact. He makes one cut and gets square hitting the hole hard with strong short area burst. Shows good lateral agility and acceleration out of his cuts to weave around defenders in the open field. Finished the season with over 2,000 rushing yards and 27 touchdowns.
Colin Miller, DB, 2024, Bellevue
Miller is an impressive young DB that secured two interceptions in the game including one that sealed the win with just over three minutes left. He’s an instinctual safety with a high football IQ and great awareness as he diagnoses run/pass. He’s a savvy athlete that transitions well out of his back pedal and uses his reactionary quickness to close space and break on the ball. He’s well coached with good technique, footwork, and eye discipline to limit his wasted movement. Good upside and potential with a strong foundational skillset to develop on.
Bronson Childs Bronson Childs 6'5" | 230 lbs | DL Kennewick | 2022 State WA , 2022, ATH, Kennewick
Childs was a force on both sides of the ball. At 6’5” 230 lbs. he possesses ideal size and length for the D1 level with the athletic ability to play multiple positions. He’s violent at the POA using his size and brute strength to overpower opponents and finish them to the ground. He shows good body control and movement skills in pursuit as he redirects and chases ball carriers all over the field. Picked up an early offer from Idaho prior to the season but his recruitment is starting to pick up pulling in offers from Portland State, Weber State, and Northern Colorado all in the last month.
Myles Mayovsky Myles Mayovsky 6'1" | 205 lbs | ATH Kennewick | 2022 State WA , 2022, RB/LB, Kennewick
Mayovsky was a bruiser on both sides of the ball. At 6’1” 205 lbs. he’s a physical presence both as a ball carrier and linebacker. He’s strong with great contact balance and leverage to win at the POA. A plus athlete that runs well and flashes good lateral agility and change of direction in space. Love his competitive nature and always attacking style of play. He’s the type of player you can build a game plan around with his ability to take over the game in all three phases. Currently holds offers from Army, Louisiana, Whitworth, and Gustavus.
2A State Championship
Lynden 21 vs Tumwater 7
Cade Slayton, ATH, 2022, Lynden
Slayton had to fill in at QB despite a shoulder injury that didn’t allow him to throw, leading Lynden to a 21-7 victory over top seeded Tumwater with 90 rushing yards and three touchdowns. At 6’2” 215 lbs. he possesses a versatile and wide skillset that allows him to be a difference maker from all over the field. He’s a throwback player that can take over a game with his tough and physical play no matter where he lines up.
Collin Anker, DB, 2023, Lynden
Anker had two interceptions in the state title win, one in the first quarter setting up Lynden with great field position deep in Tumwater territory and another in the fourth quarter as Tumwater was driving with six minutes left in the game. He’s a ball hawking safety that does a great job reading the QB’s eyes to put himself in position to make a play. Plus ball skills in coverage to adjust and time out his jump at the intersect point. Great aggressiveness and confidence as a decision maker in the last line of defense. Expect him to be a playmaker on both sides of the ball next year as a senior.
2B State Championship
Kalama 16 vs Napavine 14
Jackson Esary Jackson Esary 6'3" | 210 lbs | QB Kalama | 2022 State WA , QB, 2022, Kalama
Despite a shoulder injury, Esary led Kalama to a tough 16-14 victory over Napavine in the 2B final. With two minutes left he ran in a three yard touchdown and added the two point conversion to seal the win, also throwing for over 200 yards and another score. He’s a strong dual-threat QB with natural playmaking ability both as a passer and a runner. Plus arm talent and accuracy to attack the defense at all three levels and make off-platform throws look easy. He does a great job improvising and extending the play with his legs when protection breaks down. Holds an offer from Eastern Washington but has the ability to add more late in the recruiting cycle.
Nate Meyer, WR/LB, 2022, Kalama
Meyer led the team with 100 yards and a touchdown on six receptions. He’s a good deep threat receiver that is a plus route runner flashing good body control and coordination to adjust to the ball in the air. He’s been a difference maker on both sides of the ball all season at WR and LB.
Max Cox, DB, 2022, Kalama
The senior shutdown the Napavine offense with three interceptions on the day. He’s got a strong frame with good length at 6’3” 200 lbs. He’s a smooth athlete that plays fast and physical as a sideline to sideline defender. He plays the ball well in the air and flashes great route anticipation to put himself in position to make a play.
Preston Armstrong, DL, 2022, Kalama
The big 6’2” 255 lb. defensive lineman made a TFL for a safety that was ultimately the difference in the game. He’s a two-way lineman with good strength and power at the POA. He explodes off the ball with a good first step to gain positional leverage and does a great job using his hands to disengage while locating the ball carrier. Good nose for the football and always delivers strong contact by driving his legs through the whistle.
Ashton Demarest, QB, 2024, Napavine
The sophomore QB battled his way to 100 yards passing with one touchdown and added 105 rushing yards on 15 carries. He’s young but flashed potential throughout the season and has a good foundation to build on as he develops and gains more experience.
Mario Lara, DL, 2023, Napavine
Lara made an outstanding play to open up the scoring in the second quarter with a pick six. As Esary attempted to throw a short hitch route to the outside, Lara stepped in front and made a leaping grab before returning it three yards for a touchdown. He’s good athlete with natural movement skills at the DE and TE positions. Been a contributor since he was a freshman.
Glade Shannon, TE/LB, 2022, Napavine
Shannon was a key piece to Napavine’s run to the state championship and finished the game with two receptions for 22 yards and an impressive jump ball touchdown catch on fourth down to take a 14-6 lead in the fourth quarter. He’s an instinctual player with a strong and well-built frame at 6’0” 195 lbs. Made an impact throughout the season on both sides of the ball at TE and LB.
1A State Championship
Royal 41 vs Eatonville 0
Avery Ellis Avery Ellis 6'1" | 225 lbs | LB Royal | 2022 State WA , RB, 2022, Royal
Ellis dominated the game scoring a state championship record five touchdowns in the 41-0 win over Eatonville for the 1A title. He rushed for 175 yards and three touchdowns then added a receiving touchdown and fumble recovery for a touchdown. The 6’2” 230 lb. RB/LB possesses a well-built frame with a strong lower half. Not only is he a violent and physical force on both sides of the ball, he’s also a deceptive athlete with speed and open field elusiveness. At the college level, he projects as a LB where he can use his active hands and elite tackling abilities to his advantage. Thus far, he’s been offered by Air Force and Whitworth.
Derek Bergeson Derek Bergeson 6'1" | 200 lbs | LB Royal | 2022 State WA , QB, 2022, Royal
The Royal QB showed off his athleticism and versatility by making plays with both his arm and his legs. He’s a very good athlete that executes the RPO and has the speed/mobility to avoid pressure and make something out of nothing. Despite his strong performance as a HS QB, he projects as a LB at the college level. He’s got great range and possesses a quick trigger to read and react to run/pass. He does a great job shedding blockers and avoiding contact to get to the ball carrier and uses his speed to attack angles and close space. Holds an offer from Whitworth.
1B State Championship
Almire-Coulee-Hartline 50 vs Quilcene 20
Parker Roberts, RB, 2022, Almira-Coulee-Hartline
Ran for 157 yards on 5 carries for 2 TDs in the 50-20 win over Quilcene in the 1B final. Added a receiving TD on a 25 yard pass. The two-way playmaker finished the season with 740 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns on just 40 carries averaging 18.5 yards per touch. Also had 63 tackles and 9 TFL’s.
Dane Isaak, QB, 2022, Almira-Coulee-Hartline
The dual-threat QB was extremely efficient finishing 5 for 8 with 145 yards passing and three touchdowns adding another 93 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Accounted for over 30 touchdowns on the season while leading the explosive offense that put up at least 45 points in every game.
Grady Murray, ATH, 2022, Almira-Coulee-Hartline
Murray was a difference maker in all three phases of the state championship victory accounting for three touchdowns. Caught two long ones that put him over 100 yards receiving and returned another one 70 yards on a punt return. Also had 11 tackles on defense. Averaged 25 yards per catch and almost 27 yards per carry on his way to scoring 34 total touchdowns for the season.
Bishop Budnek, RB/LB, 2022, Quilcene
Budnek battled throughout the game for Quilcene, rushing for 140 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries. In seven games this season, he rushed for almost 1,500 yards and 26 touchdowns averaging over 200 yards per game.
