This week’s game preview we have is two legendary DFW powerhouses in Duncanville high and Desoto high school going head to head at 7 PM at the star in Frisco, Texas.
As a fan of offensive and defensive line play this match-up really excites me and undoubtedly will be won or lost in the trenches.
Desoto is coming into this round with confidence after convincingly knocking off Westfield 34-17. Desoto has a tough and chippy group of linemen who have been playing better as the seasons progressed. Their group is lead off by 6’5, 308 pound class of 2022 Blake Gillespie. Blake is a prospect to keep an eye on tonight and will need to be playing his best ball. Blake possesses a good blend of size and strength and football IQ. Him having a good showing and helping set the tone early will be invaluable in the eagles having success.
Another Desoto offensive linemen who will play a pivotal in their potential success is 2024 Ronnell McLain Jr. Ronnell is a guy who’s really developed himself into a player. The 6’4, 310 pounder is going to have one of his biggest tasks of the year so far in being matched up with Duncanville’s five-star defensive end Omari Abor Omari Abor 6'4" | 240 lbs | DL Duncanville | 2022 State TX . Back in their regular season match-up in September Duncanville bested them 42-21, but if you’ve ever coached playoff football you know it’s hard to beat a team twice. This eagles squad has talent all across the board and will be a highly competitive bout in all three phases of the game.
Leading the charge for the Reginald Samples coached Duncanville squad is the aforementioned five star defensive end Omari Abor Omari Abor 6'4" | 240 lbs | DL Duncanville | 2022 State TX . From spending time coaching at Duncanville last year I was able to see Abor up close and in the weight room every day and how he changed his body is truly impressive. The young edge rushers reminds me of a taller version of one of my old teammates from undergrad Frank Clark.
The offensive line group they boast is one of the most talented units in the state.
Led by OL coach Xavier Joe this group plays with effort, enthusiasm, and some real nastiness. Right tackle and Oregon commit Cameron Willams has been as good as advertised and consistent all year. 2023 Center Noah Ponce, who transferred in this year has given them consistent at center thus far and will need to step up and control the A gaps for them to have success. Left tackle and Florida State commit Jaylen Early Jaylen Early 6'4" | 260 lbs | OL Duncanville | 2022 State TX has made leaps and bounds of improvement and will need to be playing his best football to help the Panthers come out on top.
This game is going to be a heavy-hitting slobber knocker upfront and the unit that establishes the run and controls the line of scrimmage and time of possession will this bout.
