Every single one of these guys are great players who earned some varsity snaps in 2021 and look to take a big step up in 2022. We have a wide array of big schools, small schools, tall, powerful, etc on this list. So now, let’s take a look at 7 more defensive linemen from the class of 2024!
#11 J’len Anderson J’len Anderson 5'10" | 195 lbs | DL Warren Fitzgerald | 2024 MI (#103 overall)
Here’s a guy who’s not quiet about his grind. Because of this, I do expect Anderson to steadily rise in the rankings in the future. What he excels in are his overall fitness and his getoff. Seriously, check out his varsity highlights. He has the fastest reaction time out of anyone in this class. The ball is snapped, and he’s sometimes in the backfield before the offensive linemen can even react. Very excited to see more of Anderson on the Varsity level for Warren Fitzgerald.
#12 Chris Jones Chris Jones 5'10" | 240 lbs | DL Muskegon | 2024 State MI (#109 overall)
Jones looks like a run-stopper, but he has a great motor and he’s obviously conditioned very well, making him able to chase down some ball carriers. He’s a 5’9″ 240lb beast that is very balanced lineman. Doesn’t excel in speed or power, but he’s very good at both. I’m curious to see what the Muskegon Big Red is able to do his Junior season.
#13 Derek Gibson Derek Gibson 5'8" | 245 lbs | DL South Lake | 2024 MI (#118 overall)
A straight-up run-stopper, Gibson is an unmovable force for South Lake. “Gibb” is very good at plugging up holes and making it very hard to run it his way, though there is room for improvement in areas such as strength and athleticism. I believe with just a little improvement in those areas with more block shedding work, Gibson could level up his game in a big way.
#14 Zachary Kelly Zachary Kelly 6'0" | 260 lbs | DL Forest Hills Northern | 2024 State MI (#125 overall)
An interior lineman who lines up in the 4-point, Zachary Kelly Zachary Kelly 6'0" | 260 lbs | DL Forest Hills Northern | 2024 State MI is a prospect with lots of potential who just needs to be consistent. He stands at 6’0″ 245lbs making him a good size for a High School interior D lineman, and he plays with a generally high motor and is able to make plays with his strength and speed. Overall, his tape is just limited and we’ll have a better idea on where to rank Kelly once he gets more playing time in 2022.
#15 Carson Berkompas Carson Berkompas 6'1" | 180 lbs | DL Charlotte | 2024 State MI (#135 overall)
A player that plays many positions for Charlotte, a D4 team, Berkompas is impressive in all aspects. I almost want to classify him as an Athlete (ATH) because of how much he does for the team, and upon further consideration, I do think he deserves a slight bump in his ranking that will likely come with the next update. Speaking defensively, he’s a smart, fast player that is able to line up as a defensive end or outside linebacker. He reads plays very well which leads to some impressive playmaking. With plenty of work in the weight room, Berkompas will rise in the rankings.
#16 Shamar Riser-Pressley Shamar Riser-Pressley 6'6" | 225 lbs | DL Clintondale | 2024 State MI (#153 overall)
A monster prospect standing at 6’5″ 220lbs, Riser-Pressley did very well for Clintondale this past season. His size and long arms are very daunting, and he’s able to get past many linemen with sheer power. The biggest thing with him though is has difficulty getting and staying low when shedding blocks and tackling, therefore not generating as much power as he could.
#17 Ben Radley Ben Radley 6'4" | 235 lbs | TE South Lyon | 2024 State MI (#155 overall)
Lining up inside and outside, Radley is a good prospect for South Lyon with a high ceiling. He’s very fast standing at 6’3″ 195lbs, and very smart when it comes to reading plays. He has good leverage and uses his speed to his advantage, and always has his eyes in the backfield. He’s coached up very well and with plenty of time in the weight room, he could become an excellent player in the Lakes Valley.
