With this being the senior class and their recruiting process coming to an end here shortly we’re going to be diving into Stock Risers Still Available in this two part series to give them exposure as they try to find a place to call home. Without further ado, let’s dive into Stock Risers Still Available Part Two.
Michael Rouse Michael Rouse 6'0" | 215 lbs | LB Joliet Catholic | 2022 State IL Twitter
Mr. Rouse played a pivotal role on his team’s defense this fall season and was able to make big time plays in big moments throughout the season. That, on top of analyzing his full season highlights and scouting this young man in person once during the regular season as well as once in the 4A IHSA State Championship gives this young man a bump in the rankings. He’s projected as an outside linebacker at the next level where he can work out of the 3-4 or out of the 4-3. I personally like him more as a 4-3 linebacker where he can be walked up on the line of scrimmage so he can utilize his full foundational skill set of stopping the run as well as being able to get pressure on the quarterback off the edge. On passing downs, if you switch to the nickel, dime, etc. this young man can be an edge 7 tech to utilize his pass rush generating pressure on the quarterback. This young man works gap to gap where he disengages blocks to make the tackle at/near the line of scrimmage for no/little gain on the play. In run support, he can shoot gaps and slip blocks where he uses his hands at the point of attack to disrupt plays in the backfield off the penetration he generates. If the opposing offense is running outside zone to stretch the field horizontally this young man can use his lateral quickness to limit the ball carrier’s chances of turning the corner. He does a good job holding his gap control as he fights against down blocks to remain gap sound. On passing downs, this young man can line up as a 7 tech where he uses his quick first step to close space between him and the offensive tackle before batting hands down and turns the corner generating pressure on the quarterback. This results in flushing the quarterback out of the pocket as well as at times coming away with the sack. In my eyes, he’s a D2/NAIA caliber prospect that can be utilized in various formations as he has a good overall foundational skill set that will translate well to the next level. Highlights
Tyler Sapit Tyler Sapit 6'2" | 220 lbs | DL Batavia | 2022 State IL Twitter
Mr. Sapit had himself a season this fall where he was a force to be reckoned with in both the run and pass defense for his team. After analyzing his full season highlights there’s no doubt that he deserved a bump in our rankings. He’s projected as a defensive end that will primarily work as a 7 tech at the next level. I would be interested to see if he’ll get bumped inside as a 3 tech during passing downs to work against the interior lineman creating a mismatch as he has a quick first step in his pass rush. In run support, he shoots gaps and slips blocks as he uses his hands at the point of attack to blow up plays in the backfield at times as well as disrupt them off the penetration he generates. He does a good job working gap to gap and disengages blocks to make the tackle at/near the line of scrimmage for no/little gain on the play. If he doesn’t make the tackle on the play he keeps his linebackers clear by limiting the offensive lineman to get to the 2nd level which allows them to flow to the ball. When the play is going away from him, he takes backside pursuit to come away with the chasedown tackle as well as puts him in position to make the play if the ball carrier tries to hit the cutback lane. On passing downs, he uses his quick first step to close space between him and the offensive tackle before batting hands down and turning the corner generating pressure on the quarterback. He’s a threat to offensive linemen that struggle to get their hands up in attack position quickly after coming out of their stance. If he can’t get to the quarterback he gets his hands up to deflect passes at the line of scrimmage. In my eyes, he’s a D2/NAIA caliber prospect that has a good foundation as he heads to the next level. Highlights
Ja’kyan Shanklin Ja’kyan Shanklin 6'0" | 160 lbs | RB Athens | 2022 State IL Twitter
Mr. Shaklin plays in the smallest class of football in Illinois at 1A football. He was a menace this fall season making his impact felt in multiple areas of the game on offense as well as in the return game. That being said, upon analyzing his full season highlights he earned himself a bump in our rankings. He’s projected as a speed back that can get it done inside and outside the tackles. I believe he can also have an impact in the air attack as he has that next level gear which can be utilized on halfback screens, swing routes, and possibly line him up in the slot during specific packages to cause a mismatch against the linebacker. This young man has the vision to find running lanes quickly between the tackles as he burst through the line of scrimmage and have that next level gear to outrun pursuit angles as well as blow by 2nd level of defenders. Upon doing so, he keeps his feet driving and breaks weak arm tackles as he maintains a low center of gravity. He can find cutback lanes as well where he’ll use a quick cut where he’ll fight for extra yards and use his lateral quickness to turn the corner. In the return game, he weaves in and out of defenders where he can set his team up in good field position as well as return them for touchdowns as well. I believe this young man has untapped potential yet to come to light and has room to add to his frame without losing a step. In my eyes, he’s a D2/NAIA caliber prospect that could potentially fall to D3/JUCO. If that happens, he could potentially come away with some accolades as well as become a three year starter. Denium Juette Denium Juette 6'3" | 175 lbs | DB Fenwick | 2022 State IL Twitter
Mr. Juette is a young man that I’ve been keeping an eye on this fall season and upon seeing him in person during the 5A IHSA State Championship as well as analyzing his full season highlights there’s no doubt that he deserves a bump in our rankings. He’s projected as a balanced coverage corner that can get it done in both zone and man coverage. I believe he can also be utilized as a nickel corner to press the slot receiver disrupting the timing of the route with the quarterback. This young man has smooth and fluid transitions which he uses to keep himself in a good position to make a play on the ball. This is seen in man coverage as he stays on the receiver’s hip pocket where he can attack the ball at the highest point to force pass breakups and gets hands on when pressing. In zone coverage, he can undercut the route in the flat to come away with interceptions and can stay clinched on his receiver downfield to force coverage sacks. He also showcases his good reaction time as he can react quickly off tipped passes to come away with interceptions and can return in for a touchdown showcasing his ability to change gears quickly. I believe he can be moved around multiple defensive back positions ranging from corner to free safety to nickel corner because of his foundation of coverage skills. In my eyes, he’s a D2/NAIA caliber prospect that will provide value in coverage to the defense that he joins with his versatility. Highlights
Ethan Pytlak Ethan Pytlak 5'10" | 200 lbs | LB Naperville Central | 2022 State IL Twitter
Mr. Pytlak is a name I had on my radar heading into this fall season and one that I was interested to see how he’d produce with a full season under his belt. Upon seeing him in person during the fall season and analyzing his full season highlights he earned himself a bump in our rankings. He’s projected as a balanced interior linebacker that gets it done in both the run and air defense. What I’m interested to see is where he’ll initially line up during his first year on campus as I do believe he could add value as a Sam linebacker working backside as well as a Mike linebacker commanding the defense. In run support, he triggers downhill quickly in close space where he can meet the ball carrier at the line of scrimmage for no gain on the play. He can work gap to gap as he disengages blocks to make the tackle at/near the line of scrimmage for no/little gain on the play as he fills holes to plug gaps. This young man also uses his lateral quickness to limit the ball carrier’s chance of turning the corner as he makes the open field tackle on the perimeter and drives through the tackle. On passing downs, this young man can trigger to the flat quickly upon diagnosing the play where he isn’t afraid to lower his shoulder delivering the heavy hit forcing pass breakups. This is the same when he’s holding down the hook/curl in zone coverage as well as getting his hand in the receiver’s basket to come away with the pass breakup. In my eyes, he’s a D2/NAIA caliber prospect that could potentially drop to the D3/JUCO level. Highlights
Kameron Shaw Kameron Shaw 6'0" | 240 lbs | DL Warren Township | 2022 State IL Twitter
Mr. Shaw was a name that I was keeping an eye on heading into the fall season as I got a chance to see him at a showcase prior to the season kicking off. Upon analyzing his full season highlights this young man earned a bump in our rankings. He’s projected as an interior lineman that can get it done as a 0 tech, 1 tech, and 3 tech as he lines up at various spots across the interior line. To me, he’s more of a run stopping interior lineman as his foundational skill set is heavily leaned in that direction. He can work gap to gap where he can disengage blocks to make the tackle at/near the line of scrimmage for no/little gain on the play. As he does, he keeps his linebackers clean allowing them to flow to the ball to make a play. This young man can shoot gaps and slip blocks using his quick first step to disrupt plays in the backfield off the penetration he generates on the play. If the play is run away from him, he’ll take backside pursuit to make the chasedown tackle and keep him in position to make a play if the ball carrier tries to hit the cutback lanes. His quick first step is one to keep an eye on as he translates to the next level as he has the potential to turn into a balanced interior lineman once he develops his pass rush a bit further. On passing downs, he showed a glimpse of his power where at times he can work the offensive guard/offensive center back into the quarterback pocket to come away with the quarterback pressure. That being said, I personally believe he still has room to develop his pass rush skill set as he heads to the next level. In my eyes, he’s a D2/NAIA caliber prospect that could potentially drop to the D3/JUCO level. If that happens, I believe he has the potential to become a three year starter given how much he develops during his first year on campus. Highlights
