The Panthers closed out the 2021 season with an 8-4 record. We are going to recap the 2021 season as well as look at some of the key players that played a huge role in the 2021 season. The final thing we are going to do is look at some players with the potential to have a big 2022 season.
Looking first, at the offensive side of the ball for the Panthers. Cabot will need to find a quarterback next season to fill the shoes of senior Grant Freeman. Freeman had a solid 2021 season. He passed for 2,044 yards, 23 touchdowns, and only 10 interceptions last season. Freeman displayed a strong arm and was a quarterback that did a good job of finding his wide receivers. He did an impressive job of keeping his eyes down the field and finding his wide receivers. In 2022, look for sophomore Gunner Poe Gunner Poe 5'7" | 160 lbs | QB Cabot | 2024 State AR to have a chance to earn some snaps. Junior quarterback Collin Olivi Collin Olivi 6'0" | QB Cabot | 2023 State AR will have the opportunity to see some playing time as well in 2022.
The rushing attack that the Panthers produced in 2021 was a talented one. Two running backs got the bulk of the carries for the Panthers last season. Senior running back Mason Bell Mason Bell 5'8" | 155 lbs | RB Cabot | 2022 State AR racked up 794 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground. One of the most versatile players in the state of Arkansas saw some carries last season for the Panthers as well. Senior wide receiver Braden Jay Braden Jay 5'10" | 175 lbs | WR Cabot | 2022 State AR amassed 464 yards on the ground and produced nine touchdowns on the ground last season. Junior running back Evion Jimerson Evion Jimerson 5'10" | 195 lbs | RB Cabot | 2023 State AR will have the chance to earn some carries for the 2022 season.
Braden Jay Braden Jay 5'10" | 175 lbs | WR Cabot | 2022 State AR was one of the most productive wide receivers in the state of Arkansas. Replacing the senior wide receiver is not going to be an easy task to accomplish. Jay hauled in 60 receptions for 1,236 yards and 12 touchdowns on the season last season. Sophomore wide receiver Gavin Reardon Gavin Reardon 6'4" | 230 lbs | TE Cabot | 2024 State AR gives the Panthers a tall pass catching target. Reardon is 6’4” and 210-pounds and has the size to high point the football. Cabot always does a good job of having talented players ready to play and this coming season should be no different.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Panthers will lose talented defensive end Justin Sobczak Justin Sobczak 6'6" | 235 lbs | DL Cabot | 2022 State AR . Sobczak had an impressive season in 2021, racking up 34 tackles and 7.5 sacks. Look for junior Noah Yates to continue to produce on the defensive side of the ball for the Panthers. Yates racked up 71 tackles last season and is always around the football. The defense is always a Cabot strong suit and the 2022 season should not be much different for the Panthers.
