Continue ReadingWe tap probably one more time into the Newcomers of our last update of the Class of 2022 rankings in the Dakotas. We put an emphasis with these evaluations on mostly unsigned prospects, which account for 12 of the 13 prospects you will see on this list. All of these prospect in my eyes, have what it take to play at the next-level or could be prospects that could be a solid project to work on grooming at the college level. We dive into Part III of the newcomers to the rankings with a huge focus on the prospects that are flying under the radar of college programs throughout the Midwest! Enjoy.
Devyn Born Devyn Born 6'0" | 200 lbs | LB Douglas | 2022 State | Linebacker | Douglas (SD)
When watching Devyn’s tape, you see a good mix of versatility in his game. He shows off an instinctive resume to read the play early and get to the direction where the ball is going in pass coverage. Devyn also shows a solid ability to crash into the rushing lanes even with little room between the gaps. When it comes to his contact level, he does a great job with his physicality connecting with the defender. I would love to see more tape with this young man in pass coverage however, I think with his sizeable frame (6’0 200), he could be a great small school hidden gem at the next level, as he does have a really strong motor to get around the box.
Masyn Fandrich Masyn Fandrich 6'3" | 250 lbs | OL Hillsboro | 2022 State | Offensive Line | Hillsboro-Central Valley (ND)
Masyn does a great job with his shoving ability, moving the defensive line in the opposite direction of the ball on multiple occasions. He also shows that he can take his punch to the next level, finishing his defender to the turf with next-level size at 6’3 250 pounds. He has the capability to drive his defender into the next level giving his running back a solid gap to get their rushing attack thru. I feel when watching his senior tape, he’s got quite a few key plays he should move to the top of his film, as I see his film progressing better the deeper I got into it. I highly recommend going to his film around the 1:10 mark, as he shows what a driver he can be with a teammate on his side driving the Burros rushing attack with a mean punch of leverage driving the defensive linemen about 15 yards upfield. Another strong small school prospect that college coaches will want to take a look at from a very strong North Dakota State runner up in the 2021 season.
Herman Frisvold Herman Frisvold 6'4" | 230 lbs | DL Lemmon-McIntosh | 2022 State | Defensive Line | Lemmon-McIntosh (SD)
The first thing that came to play when watching Herman’s film was his ability to extend his reach when had showed his hands deep into a defender and then could pull off his block easily to make a play in the backfield. I would love to see more explosion out the gates out of his tape, but there is a lot of next-level development with the size of this young man at 6’4 230 pounds. Herman does a solid job getting off his blocks especially to the right side and is a go-getter as far as working his tail off to try and get pressure on the quarterback. Frisvold’s add to the rankings adds yet a 3rd prospect in my eyes that can play college football out of Lemmon-McIntosh, with the other two being WR Talon Trogstad Talon Trogstad 6'3" | 185 lbs | TE Lemmon-McIntosh | 2022 State and DE Tell Mollman.
Corban Potts Corban Potts QB LaMoure-Litchville-Marion | 2022 State | Quarterback | LaMoure-Litchville-Marion (ND)
I got my first look of Corban Potts Corban Potts QB LaMoure-Litchville-Marion | 2022 State in the 9-man championship game this winter. In that game alone, there was a lot to like about this kid’s poise in the pocket. Corban showed really strong arm strength and I really enjoyed watching the ball placement he set the football in against Cavalier. He also showed great mobility for his size (6’3) that could extend plays and still keep that same calm demeanor outside of the pocket. He also showed tremendous touch on the football on his shorter length throws I caught. With a little development on his throwing mechanics, I think this young man could excel at the college level as he showed that he is also a proven winner for his play on both sides of the ball.
Brady Giles Brady Giles 6'1" | 180 lbs | P Brandon Valley | 2022 State | Punter | Brandon Valley (SD)
Brady Giles Brady Giles 6'1" | 180 lbs | P Brandon Valley | 2022 State of Brandon Valley is the first punter we have added to the Class of 2022 rankings, after a solid senior season for the Lynx. Brady showed a good boom in his leg averaging around 35 yards per punt in his senior season. You can certainly tell he owns his craft as a punter, as he has good ball placement and solid mechanics. He can develop this offseason with some increased strength in his lower body to get his yards per punt average up, but I like the hangtime he gets on his punts. Certainly would be a solid specialist to look at for some of the local college programs. Brady is also a heck of a student off the field, with a 34 ACT and a 4.0 GPA!
Ray Steiner Ray Steiner 6'0" | 165 lbs | WR Beach | 2022 State | Wide Receiver | Beach (ND)
Ray is a lot longer wide receiver than he probably gets credit for. He has a great get off on the snap, and has a great burst to buzz by defenders with his route running. I like watching his patience when trying to make a catch, as he shows good finesse when going for the football. He shows a good balance with his feet when he has to wait for the football to get down from the air and doesn’t get tied up. He shows a solid vertical to get above the defensive back to make a catch. Ray is committed to play JUCO football for Papago Pumas Junior College in Arizona, so although he is a committed prospect, I would certainly love to see what this young man can create for himself at the JUCO level as I think he can become a promising scholarship-level WR when his JUCO career is wrapped up.
Logan Halls Logan Halls 6'0" | 260 lbs | OL Hot Springs | 2022 State | Offensive Line | Hot Springs (SD)
Logan starts off his tape with solid leverage, by holding the defender hostage and then finishing his block on the turf. The 6’0 260 pound center does a good job with leveling out his defender in the opposite direction away from the ball. The biggest development I see with this young man is getting a clean punch out the gates of his blocks, as on multiple occasions you will see him strike high or off the mark on a few punches. There is no question Logan has the strength to move some bodies around at the next-level, he just needs a offensive line coach to help work on his technique so he can get cleaner strikes next year. I believe Halls could be a good project offensive linemen for a NAIA program to take a chance on, because when he does strike he shows a lot of potential.
Mike Peters Mike Peters 6'0" | 160 lbs | DB Madison | 2022 State | Defensive Back | Madison (SD)
Mike was another defensive back prospect that was a fun watch in-person this season against Dell Rapids. There is a lot to like with how this kid elevates his body to get in the air and make a play when the ball is coming his way. He is also super instinctive and makes reads on the play extremely well from start to finish. He shows reactive speed that just clicks so well when closing the gap on the wide receiver’s route and just has great hands to make darn sure he catches the ball. You know you are seeing something you like on film when you watch nearly 2 minutes of his film, and every SINGLE play ends up as a interception, which is not something I have seen I don’t think ever evaluating cornerbacks across the Midwest. Mike also has good extension with his length. He also carries a great mix of combo press-man and playing in zone, in which he has a great success rate however he lines up. College coaches certainly want to take a look at Mr. Peters, as he is one of the best next-level prospects I would say on this entire list.
Colt Wilkinson Colt Wilkinson 6'1" | 210 lbs | ATH De Smet | 2022 State | Athlete | De Smet (SD)
Colt was another stud of a player I got to watch live in De Smet in the 2021 season. Regardless of where this young man lined up on either side of the football, he played with an excellent adrenaline rush you just had to watch. I remember being really impressed with his touch on the football and showed solid precision with his lead on his receivers. Colt also was not afraid to let his legs do the work, as he showed his athletic ability at a high level when he would take the ball on the run. Defensively, he was a crasher that just attacked the inside running lanes really strong with solid contact to go along with it. I love watching him take off to the outside on short throws and just blast into the ball carrier with a full throttle of contact in his arsenal causing a handful of pass break ups. Colt is a fierce competitor to say the least, and I think he is going to see more football opportunities come to him this winter while already having a couple offers already to his resume. My eyes project him as a linebacker at the next level.
