From there it was a matter of getting plays. So that’s when I went to Twitter to ask for video submissions of players top plays. I had a nice number of submissions that I’ve cut down to a Top 10. For each play I’ll give the player’s info a long with a brief scouting report for the players. Today I’ll go through the plays 10-6 and Sunday I’ll share the Top 5. So, with further ado, plays 10-6.
10. OLB Wyatt Gedeon Wyatt Gedeon 6'2" | 230 lbs | LB St. Edward | 2023 State OH Saint Ed’s, C/O 2023, 6’1 225
Gedeon with the great hustle play to save the touchdown!
Gedeon was a starting linebacker on the Saint Ed’s Division 1 state championship football team. At 6’1 225 I like Gedeon as a 4-3 WIL linebacker. Gedeon is a good blend of size, strength, and athleticism. As we see in this top play, you’re not going to find many who will outhustle and outwork Gedeon. He’s the type of player who you can build a culture on. It’s not just intangibles though. Gedeon is a defensive playmaker, who can make plays all over the field. He’s shows good timing and acceleration that help him get home to the QB on blitzes. He’s strong enough to set the edge in the run game and create negative plays. Gedeon is getting MAC interests, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he were to start to get some P5 attention this offseason.
9. ATH Will Ostrowski Will Ostrowski 5'9" | 180 lbs | WR Westlake | 2023 OH Westlake, C/O 2023, 5’8 170
Ostrowski intercepts the ball and then makes the long return for the Touchdown!
When you watch film of Will Ostrowski Will Ostrowski 5'9" | 180 lbs | WR Westlake | 2023 OH the first thing that comes to mind is “playmaker”. Ostrowski may not be the biggest of athletes at 5’8 170, but he’s dynamic in every sense of the word. He made plays on offense, he made plays on defense, and he made teams on special teams. At running back Ostrowski showed strong acceleration, changed of direction, and vision that he used to create chunk plays. As I made mention of he also is a threat to take the ball to the house as a return man on special teams. I like Ostrowski as a high level Division 2 player at the college level. I really think he could excel and do some really big things there.
8. DE/TE Freddie Borkey Freddie Borkey 6'1" | 205 lbs | WR Padua Franciscan | 2024 State OH Padua, C/O 2024, 6’2 215
Sophomore Freddie Borkey Freddie Borkey 6'1" | 205 lbs | WR Padua Franciscan | 2024 State OH makes the full extension grab and gets his feet in for the touchdown!
At 6’2 215 Freddie Borkey Freddie Borkey 6'1" | 205 lbs | WR Padua Franciscan | 2024 State OH has good for a 2024 TE. He does a good job with his routes. As a receiver he’s a hands catcher. His top play was really impressive for a couple reasons. One it was a nice job to track the ball for the over the shoulder catch and two the awareness to get his feet down so that it was a completion and touchdown was very impressive. In the run game Borkey is not only a willing blocker, but clearly loves it. You can see it in how he finishes. He’s also used in a number of different spots as you’ll see him line up inline, split out, and even as a wingback. I’d like to see Borkey continue to work on his explosiveness in his route running. I’m very excited to see how he develops over the next couple of years.
7. LB Malik Ray Pickerington North, C/O 2023, 6’0 200
Malik Ray goes for the tackle, but instead strips the ball and returns it for 6!
To say it runs in the family would be an understatement. Malik’s dad Marcus played strong safety on the University of Michigan’s 1997 National Championship team. At 6’0 200 the younger Ray is a linebacker with very strong instincts who gets downhill quickly. He can also drop and plays well in space with great awareness in defending the pass. At the college level I like Ray as a weakside linebacker. I’d like to see Malik continue to add weight and strength that will help him in taking on the bigger offensive linemen he’ll see at the next level. One thing about Marcus’s game is that he seems to have a knack for game changing type plays. When you watch his film, you see TFL’s, forced fumbles, and interceptions. He just has that ball awareness and ball hawk mentality which any defensive coordinator is going to appreciate. Right now I’d project Malik Ray to the high Division 2 to D1 FCS level.
6. DE/C AJ Schuller Toledo St. John’s, C/O 2023, 6’1 240
Defensive lineman AJ Schuller jumps up for the interception and then takes it all the way for the score!
Video Credit to: BCSN
At 6’1 240 AJ Schuller has good size and is a sneaky athlete at defensive end. When you watch his film you see a player with a good get-off and one who plays with a good pad level. He’s not a defensive lineman who gets caught up in simply beating his man, he’s focused on making the play. In Schuller’s top play not only does he show outstanding awareness, but good athleticism with his ability to jump, catch the ball, and then run it in for the pick 6. Impressive for a defensive lineman. He does a great job of staying wide and batting balls down if the sack isn’t there. He has the motor to run plays down from the backside. I would project Schuller to the D2 level in college.
