There are 19 athletes in the top 200 and 32 athletes overall for the Class of 2023 in Missouri in the Prep Redzone database. Today we are taking a closer look at the top five. (Click on the player names to check out their prospect pages on PRZ, including links to their HUDL highlights.)
1. Donovan McIntosh Donovan McIntosh 6'3" | 170 lbs | DB St. Mary's | 2023 State MO , St. Mary’s
A 6-foot-3, 175-pound wide receiver and cornerback, McIntosh checks in as the No. 27 overall prospect in Missouri in the Class of 2023 after showing electric skill set late in his junior season – in particular in the Dragons’ state championship victory — despite posting modest numbers on a loaded St. Mary’s team this fall.
He was credited with 13 tackles and one INT and four catches for 124 yards and two touchdowns in just seven games. He averaged are remarkable 31.0 yards per catch. He scored twice in the state championship game – on a long reception and an interception return.
McIntosh has received early scholarship offers from Kansas and Arkansas.
2. Zach Grace Zach Grace 6'3" | 235 lbs | ATH Kearney | 2023 State MO , Kearney
Grace is a strong 6-3, 230-pound tight end who also excels at track and field. The No. 42 overall prospect in Missouri in the junior class, Grace is a bit of a challenging player to figure out in terms of what position he’ll end up playing at the next level.
Some of the best highlights from Grace’s junior season have him lining up as a wingback and turning handoffs into long runs where he shows off his speed, athleticism and power. His best position might be fullback at the next level, but there are fewer programs using a traditional fullback. He looks like he could potentially be a good defensive end or outside linebacker, though he doesn’t have any defensive plays among his junior highlights.
Still, his unique combination of size, strength and speed is enough to have us intrigued about his potential as an athlete.
3. Da’Kion Phillips Da’Kion Phillips 5'11" | 190 lbs | ATH Lift For Life | 2023 State MO , Lift For Life
A 5-11, 190-pounder, Phillips had an outstanding junior season on both sides of the ball as a running back and defensive back.
Phillips rushed for 1,039 yards and six touchdowns, averaging 8.8 yards per carry, caught five passes for another 42 yards and two touchdowns, scored 10 total touchdowns and five 2-point conversions. Defensively, he was credited with 60 tackles, which ranked fourth among the Hawks, and nine interceptions.
4. Jobe Smith Jobe Smith 5'11" | 180 lbs | ATH North County | 2023 State MO , North County
Smith, a 6-0, 180-pound running back and defensive back, had a record-breaking junior season as he led North County to a good playoff run and a 12-2 overall record.
Smith broke his school’s single-game rushing record (338 yards), single-game scoring record (32 points) and single-season rushing record (1,928 yards). He racked up 2,120 total yards, including 192 receiving yards, and scored 32 touchdowns. We couldn’t find any defensive statistics for Smith, but with his size, speed and strength we’d be surprised if he wasn’t a solid defensive back prospect as well.
5. Brady Hultman Brady Hultman 6'1" | 210 lbs | ATH Francis Howell | 2023 State MO , Francis Howell
The Francis Howell Vikings were once again one of the better teams in the St. Louis area and Hultman, a 6-1, 210-pounder, was one of the driving forces behind Howell’s success with his play at running back and outside linebacker.
Hultman rushed for a team-high 819 yards and 12 touchdowns on 120 carries, averaging 6.8 yards per carry, and finished second on the team in tackles with 75. He also added one interception. Hultman’s combination of size, speed and strength make him an intriguing prospect.
