At this exclusive showcase dozens of high school athletes were able to test their speeds and skills in a competitive environment. They got a chance to test their 40 yard dash, the L drill, the shuttle run and the broad jump. They also got a chance to polish up their individual positional skills and competed 1 on 1 against each other. I saw a lot of standout athletes that I’ll be discussing in this two part article.
#34 Brock Ramzinsky Brock Ramzinsky 6'1" | 220 lbs | LB San Antonio Churchill | 2023 State TX LB Class of 2023 6’1 220 lbs Churchill High School
Brock Ramzinsky Brock Ramzinsky 6'1" | 220 lbs | LB San Antonio Churchill | 2023 State TX came all the way from San Antonio to get noticed. Brock is a solid defensive linebacker with a sturdy and strong body build. Brock wasn’t the fastest linebacker, but he was quick and had great footwork. During the individual drills against the running backs not one of them could get pass this behemoth of an athlete. Brock’s testing stats was a 5 flat 40 yard dash, 4.34 Shuttle run and 7.31 L Drill.
#66 David Johnson David Johnson 5'7" | 155 lbs | WR Klein Collins | 2024 TX WR Class of 2024 5’7 153 lbs Klein Collins High School
The 1st time I noticed David Johnson David Johnson 5'7" | 155 lbs | WR Klein Collins | 2024 TX was during his 40 yard dash. David had a great starting run and great running form. David didn’t waste any unnecessary movement allowing him to a great time of 4.54. David also showcased his speed during the 1 on 1 portion as a wide receiver being out defensive backs to get open for passes. David’s testing stats was a 4.54 40 yard dash, 4.40 Shuttle run, 9 broad jump and 7.41 L Drill.
#12 Javon Rhodes Javon Rhodes 6'0" | 165 lbs | DB Stafford | 2023 TX DB Class of 2023 6’0 165 lbs Stafford High School
Waynes Rhodes was the fastest athlete at this showcase. Wayne had the fastest 40 yard dash time at 4.47. He had a great kick off and starting run. With his great running form I asked Wayne afterwards if he ran track and he told me yes. I could tell that track really helped Wayne with his overall speed and quickness. Then during the 1 on 1 portion Wayne was able to transfer his speed to playing defensive back and put on pressure on the wide receivers. One thing I would love to see from Wayne is improving his catching skills because their were a lot of opportunities for interceptions that he unfortunately dropped. Wayne’s testing stats was a 4.47 40 yard dash, 4.37 shuttle run, 10’2 broad jump and 7.10 L Drill.
#5 Chris Gant Jr. DB Class of 2024 5’11 185 lbs Klein Collins High School
Chris Gant Jr showed out at the showcase. Chris plays defensive back and a commendable one at that. Chris showed me his speed and quickness during the 40 yard dash and shuttle run. Then during the 1 on 1 portion I saw Chris demonstrating lock down defense against wide receivers. Chris was able to jam up his man and blocked or avoid any ball thrown to the receiver. Chris’ testing stats was a 4.65 40 yard dash, 4.28 shuttle run, 9’8 broad jump and 7.25 L Drill.
#38 Kieran Garris Kieran Garris 6'2" | 240 lbs | OL Samuel V. Champion | 2024 State TX OL Class of 2024 6’2 225 lbs Samuel V. Champion High School
There wasn’t a lot of offensive linemen present at the Houston showcase, but Kieran Garris Kieran Garris 6'2" | 240 lbs | OL Samuel V. Champion | 2024 State TX was definitely the one that stood out. Kieran is a solid offensive guard during the testing period he had adequate stats, but during the individual portion I could tell his basics were solid. Kieran had notable footwork and had a great lineman stance and posture. Kieran still has traits to polish up on for example, his starting block step and continuously moving his feet on pass and run blocks. Kieran is an upcoming Junior so he still has two years to improve his overall skills. Kieran’s testing stats was a 5.28 40 yard dash, 4.81 Shuttle run, 7’10 broad jump and 8.07 L Drill.
