Year in and year out, Georgia produces talent in the secondary extremely well due to good training, coaches, and overall scheme. Plenty of young defensive backs are starting to stand out, and the 2024 class appears to be just as deep as recent classes.
Here are some of the top interception leaders to know about in the 2024 class…
Khaleed Latimore – Monroe Area
Don’t let his size fool you. This Athens-area defensive back plays bigger than his 5-foot-8 150-pound frame. He’s tough, knows how to get off blocks in the run game, and does a nice job of finding the football in coverage. He’s already making plays as a sophomore and it appears his best football is still ahead of him. He’s picked off four passes this season, and when he has the ball, he’s looking to run. He’s quick, shows good closing speed, and is a young 2024 defensive back to know for the future.
Ricardo Jones – Northside
One of the top ball-hawking safeties in Middle Georgia, Jones is a smooth defender in coverage who knows how to locate the ball and make a play on it. He’s fundamentally sound, shows great footwork, and tracks the ball well in the air. He hands hands like a receiver, and when he’s able to go up and get it, the 6-foot-3 185-pounder does a great job of making a play on a consistent basis. Only a sophomore, Jones was able to be one of the more reliable defenders on one of the top 6A teams in the state. He’s also excellent against the run, showing he’s a sure tackler and someone who can get down hill and make a play behind the line of scrimmage. Last fall, Jones made 50 tackles, three forced fumbles, and intercepted eight passes, most for a sophomore across the state.
Jordan Green – Mount de Sales Academy
One of the top young defensive backs in Macon, Green has stepped up this year as a sophomore, making lots of plays in the secondary. A two-sport star who also shines on the baseball diamond, Green is consistently one of the top athletes on the field and has made a giant impact in the secondary. So far this season, Green has madd 38 tackles, intercepted four passes, deflected five more passes, and has forced two fumbles. He’s a playmaking defender to know about in Macon moving forward.
CJ Jones – Crips County
A solid defensive back in coverage from the small-town of Cordele in South Georgia, Jones had a true nose for the football as a sophomore last year, picking off four passes and showing natural instincts in coverage. He reads the QB well and knows how to jump a route early and make a play on the ball. He’s versatile enough to play multiple positions and can line up as safety or cover a receiver in the slot. He has good footwork, reliable ball skills, and knows how to take off down the field once he has the ball in his hands. He’s got some South Georgia toughness to him as well, but his ability to intercept passes and hold up in coverage that makes him one of the top 2024 DBs in the area.
