Continue ReadingIt is always fun to track some of the top talent in the state, but what is most important is if it translates to the field of play. Last season, there were plenty of Sophomore Standouts, especially at the skilled positions. Lucky enough for some of the teams that they played for, some of these players managed to crack our list as some of the top scorers in their class last year. Below, we have listed some of our favorite prospects who made this list last year, and we certainly suggest that you take a peek at their film once you get the chance.
Jordan Triplett Jordan Triplett 5'11" | 210 lbs | RB Frederica Academy | 2024 State GA (RB)- Frederica Academy
Triplett was the top scoring Sophomore throughout the state of Georgia last year, as he managed to put up 188 total points for his team. This came with 31 TD’s on the ground, and an average of 18.8 points a game. To break down each of his scores, 26 TD’s came on the ground, 3 were via reception, and 2 were from interception returns. By the end of the year, this stellar performance also attributed to over 1,600 rushing yards, and plenty of defensive, and offensive momentum for his team. In 2022, we expect similar production, with advanced knowledge of the game as a whole.
Duke Watson (RB)- Mary Persons
Watson, who happens to be one of our favorite up and coming sophomores, was also one of the top scorers in the state last year, and the second leading scorer out of all 2024 players. In 2021, he put up a total of 156 points, with an average of 14.2 points a game. By the time the season came to a close, he had also rushed for over 1,700 yards, with all but one of his TD’s being on the ground. This additional score happened to come from a receiving TD, which, as one could expect, continued to keep the opposing defense off balance. Next season, as Watson returns for Persons, we expect him to continue to be a standout player, thus helping them to make a push throughout the season for the playoffs.
Micah Welch (RB)- Baldwin
Welch was a stud for Baldwin High last year as he managed to rack up 126 total points, making him the third leading sophomore scorer in the state. What makes this even more fun is the fact that he managed to do so as a young RB in only 9 games. In these 9 games, Welch also ran for almost 1,000 total yards on roughly 140 carries, and an average of 7.1 yards a run. With this, Welch also averaged around 109 yards a game. In addition to this, out of the total 126 points Welch scored, 19 of these TD’s were on the ground, and 2 were in the air.
Gavin Hall Gavin Hall 5'10" | 190 lbs | QB Gainesville | 2024 State GA (QB)- Hebron Christian Academy
It should not be a surprise that a player like Gavin Hall Gavin Hall 5'10" | 190 lbs | QB Gainesville | 2024 State GA , who was started QB for Hebron last year as a Sophomore, managed to be one of the top 2024 scorers in the state. When it was all said and done, he managed to account for 114 points, with 19 TD’s. 18 of these TD’s scored by Hall came from running the ball, and the final TD came from a reception. With this being said, even though Hall passed for 350 yards last year, we would like to see him advance as a passer, including with passing TD’s when the 2022 season arrives.
Joshua Adams (RB)- Bethlehem Christian
Bethlehem Christian witnessed a young star for their team last year as Sophomore RB, Joshua Adams stood out for his team, becoming the 5th leading 2024 scorer last season. By the end of the season, he had accounted for 114 points over a span of 12 games. With this came an average of 9.5 points a game, and a total of 19 TD’s for the season. Out of all of these scores, 16 of them were on the ground, and 3 came from receptions. By the end of the year, Adams had rushed for over 1,200 yards, with an average of 6.2 yards a carry.
