Leaders in this category have to keep a consistent pace all throughout the season to maintain, or even total the gaudy numbers you tend to see season leaders finish the year with. Last year, most of the top contributors in the state within this category happened to be seniors, but impressively, there also happened to be plenty of younger prospects, and juniors in the mix as well. Below, take some time to check out the state of Georgia’s top returning passing yards leaders, as we feel they will be more than worth keeping track of next year.
Aaron Philo- Prince Avenue Christian
During his sophomore season, Aaron Philo led the entire state in total passing yards. While he managed to do so, he unfortunately has not seen as much activity recruiting wise as we thought he would. Regardless, his season total of 4,540 yards led the state by nearly 400 yards. Philo also managed to achieve this within a 14 game span, with an average of 324 yards a game. In addition to this, Philo also threw for 47 TD’s, and 14 interceptions. Next year, we expect Philo to continue to be an integral part of his team’s offense, as he will be expected to lead them through the air again, with the hope of less turnovers. Only time will tell what success he will have in 2022, and if he can get anywhere close to replicated what he did in 2021.
Dylan Lonergan Dylan Lonergan 6'2" | 200 lbs | QB Brookwood | 2023 State GA – Brookwood (Snellville)
It should be no shocker to most readers that Lonergan has made this list. Since becoming a starter for the Brookwood Broncos, he has blown up and become a star for his team, and school. Along the way, he has also gained a large amount of attention recruiting wise. Regardless, he finished last year with a solid overall team record, and a total of 3,392 yards. This amount of yards was ranked 5th among state passing yards leaders last year. With this, Lonergan also averaged around 260 yards a game, and he passed for 32 TD’s, to only 3 interceptions. As his senior year approaches, we are excited to see what he can manage to achieve next year, and where he decides to commit at the next level.
Rodge Waldrop- Brookwood (Thomasville)
Waldrop, who played for the other Brookwood High School in Thomasville, also made a name for himself last year as a Sophomore, and is without a doubt one of our favorite top passing yards returners next season. Waldrop averaged 264 yards a game in 2021, and also managed to throw for 32 TD’s. Unfortunately, this came with 19 interceptions. Regardless, he also passed for 3,168 yards, which ranked 10th in the entire state last year. In 2022, we expect Waldrop to maintain a high level of production, but we would like to see him cut down on the turnovers.
Jai’que Hart- Lithia Springs
Hart, who was a junior last season, came in at 13th in the entire state in passing during 2021. In total, he threw for around 3,082 yards, and 30 TD’s, to only 11 interceptions. In addition to this, he also passed for over 256.8 yards a game, bringing him up to this season total. Because he will be returning as a senior next year, we are looking forward to seeing how he improves his game, and steps up in his last season for his team.
Armar Gordon- Perry
Ranked 15th in the state, Gordon passed for a total of 2,990 yards last year. This came with an average of 230 yards a game, and a total of over 290 pass attempts all season long. Gordon not only stepped up for Perry High, but will be expected to return in a strong fashion next year, hopefully passing for similar, if not more yards than his successful year in 2021. Last year, Gordon also threw for 32 TD’s in a 13 game span, only proving the impact he had on his team.
