This includes within specific statistic categories, programs, or even position groups. This past season, there were plenty of prospects who had great seasons when toting the rock. Specifically, a ton of these players did so in their senior year, and will have the opportunity to do so at the next level this upcoming fall. Other prospects will be returning next season for their senior, junior, or even sophomore seasons. Below, we noted some of the more notable rushing yard leaders from last season who will be returning in the fall, and will likely be helping to shoulder the burden for their teams. Whenever you get a moment, we suggest checking them out, as we doubt you will be disappointed.
Keyjuan Brown Keyjuan Brown 5'10" | 200 lbs | RB South Atlanta | 2023 State GA (RB)- South Atlanta
It should go without saying that we feel that Keyjuan Brown Keyjuan Brown 5'10" | 200 lbs | RB South Atlanta | 2023 State GA is going to be one of the best statistical rushers of the football who will be returning next season. Last year, as a Junior, he led the entire state in rushing with 2,757 yards, and 38 TD’s. These gaudy statistics also came with an average of 212 yards a game, and 11 yards a carry. Brown’s domination does not stop there, as he recorded his longest run of the season at 92 yards. This talent in itself proves that he is a force to be reckoned with, and we are beyond excited to see what he can do for his team next year.
Justice Haynes Justice Haynes 5'10" | 205 lbs | RB Buford | 2023 State GA (RB)- Blessed Trinity
Haynes has been one of the top prospects in the state ever since he was a sophomore. In 2022, he will be returning for his senior year, and his eyes will likely be on a better team record, as well as the state rushing title. Last season, he came in fourth place statewide, but managed to rack up over 2,300 yards. This massive amount of yardage also came with 29 touchdowns, and only 1 fumble. He managed to achieve this within a 12 game span, while also averaging around 8.6 yards a carry. If he can managed to replicate any of this success next season, he is bound to have a great year.
DJ Bell (RB)- Pierce County
During his Junior year, Bell remained an important part of his team on both sides of the ball. Amongst this contribution, was his overarching success on the offensive side of the ball, as he finished the season as the 8th leading rusher in the entire state. This placement came with his season total, 1,887 yards, and 23 TD’s. Even more impressive, he did this in only 9 games. In this time span, we should also add that Bell averaged around 209 yards a game and 7.2 yards a carry. All of this spells the fact that he was absolutely dominant with the ball in his hands. While the 2022 season approaches, we believe that he will continue to develop as an all around back, including his speed. When next year comes around, we won’t be surprised if he ends up being one of the standout backs in the state.
Ty Adams (QB)- Swainsboro
What is most impressive about Adam’s success last season when rushing the ball is the fact that he managed to do so from the QB position. In total, he rushed for around 1,778 yards, and 23 TD’s. Throughout the season, he rushed the ball over 260 times, and managed to average about 7.6 yards a carry. If this isn’t impressive, the fact that he did all of this, while commanding and leading the offense certainly will. Even more worth noting, Adams also achieved such things without fumbling the football once. As we look forward to the 2022 season, one can only hope to witness Adams accomplish anything close to what he did last year.
Duke Watson (RB)- Mary Persons
Last season was Watson’s sophomore year, and he managed to make an immediate impact with the ball in his hands. By the end of the season, he finished with a season total of 1,716 yards. These yards came in the span of 11 games, and 230 touches. In addition to this, the longest run of Watson’s season was that of 71 yards, helping to bring his season total up to 7.5 yards a carry. Watson was also very efficient last season, as this achievement came with only 1 fumble, and an average of over 156 yards a game.
