There are some true tackling machines north of Atlanta and a lot of them have more than enough D1 talent that should allow them to play somewhere at the next level.
Here are a few under the radar linebackers from North Georgia…
Isaac Hubert – Creekview
One of the most underrated linebackers across the state, Hubert is a Cherokee County product who is coming off a great junior season, making 58 tackles and 16 TFLs to go along with 7.5 sacks and two fumble recoveries. The 6-foot-2 230-pounder is also a standout in the weight room for Creekview, holding the schools squat record while bench-pressing 375+ pounds. the schools record recently with a 535-pound squat. With his senior season coming up in the fall, it’s safe to say Hubert’s best football is still ahead of him and we expect him to be one of the top defenders in all of North Georgia for the 2022 season. He’s a multi-sport star who excels in the classroom as well. His toughness, instincts, and sure-tackling ability are just a few factors that make him a D1 talent.
“His biggest strength is how hard he works,” Creekview head coach Trevor Williams told Prep Redzone. “He wants to be great. He asks great questions and leads by example.”
Raleigh Herbert – West Forsyth
One of the more underrated linebackers across North Georgia, Herbert is a tough, instinctive linebacker with good size and speed at 6-foot-2 215-pounds. He’s coming off an excellent junior season last fall where he recorded 108 tackles, 11.5 TFLs and 2.5 sacks against 7A competition. The sure-tackler reacts quickly, gets off blocks, and knows how to deliver a hit when he meets the ball carrier. He plays hard, he plays until the whistle, and he brings an impactful spirit and presence to the defense. He’s become a vocal leader on the team and helps make sure everyone is lined up properly. He can absolutely play at the next level and he could see some real D! interest coming his way sooner than later. He’s one of the top defenders in the region from last year and is expected to have a monster senior season for the Wolverines in the fall.
Zion Rutledge – Hillgrove
If you’re looking for the next breakout 2023 defender in Cobb County, Rutledge might be your guy. The junior linebacker was very impressive this season and ran down running backs and quarterbacks consistently all season. A tough, hard-nosed linebacker who knows how to tackle, Rutledge is a 6-foot-0 220-pounder who loves contact. He’s instinctive against the run and finds a way to get a great angle on the ball carrier. He can also get after the passer and leaves a bruise when he gets to him. As a junior last fall, Rutledge has made 142 tackles and recorded four sacks. Look for him to possibly see his recruitment take off once his junior film gets out to more and more college coaches.
Jayven Hall – LB/RB – Roswell
The Hornets are coming off an excellent 2021 season and a deep 7A playoff run thanks for their stingy defense and play from linebacker Jayven Hall. A do-it-all athlete and overall football guy, Hall had a big junior season, making tackle after tackle on defense while helping out at running back. The athletic 6-foot-1 205-pounder was one of the top under the radar athletes in the region, making 153 tackles, 19 TFLs, 2 INTs, and over 200 total yards on the season. He’s a sleeper recruit who has the talent, toughness, and instincts to play somewhere at the next level.
