Many athletes from Colorado are now officially signed to play at the next level, and we will highlight some of the schools, divisions and other areas where multiple athletes from the state will be heading next. But for today, we wanted to spotlight four signings that may have flown unnoticed that could up ending being big signings for their respective schools.
Seth Cromwell Seth Cromwell 5'10" | 215 lbs | RB Columbine | 2022 State CO , 2022, 5’10, 210, RB/LB, Columbine (committed to Missouri Western)
One of my favorite prospects to watch the last couple of seasons, Cromwell has been good in both phases for a top-level program in Columbine. As a running back, he runs hard between the tackles and always seems to be moving forward after contact for extra yardage. But don’t let the power be the only thing that gets you: he has quick feet to move and change direction, and he shows a nice burst of speed in the open field to break a solid run. Ball security is another important trait, as he fumbled only once in his three years as a starter according to his stats with Maxpreps.com. Then on defense, he excels in his run fits, hitting the gap and sneaking through to make a play near the line of scrimmage when coming downhill, and he has the speed and ball skills to drop into coverage. His senior season ended with 1,296 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns on the ground, one touchdown reception through the air, 79 tackles, four sacks and an interception, resulting in him earning First Team All-State honors in Class 5A. Cromwell has the experience and the skills to be an immediate contributor at the next level.

Jack Pierce Jack Pierce 5'8" | WR Cherokee Trail | 2022 State CO , 2022, 5’8, 170, WR, Cherokee Trail (committed to South Western Oklahoma State)
In Pierce’s own words, you should go where you are wanted. South Western Oklahoma State wanted Pierce bad, and they landed a talented wide receiver for their 2022 class. Pierce flourished in his senior season this past fall for Cherokee Trail. He caught 101 passes for 1,190 yards and 14 touchdowns for his team. He did an excellent job in the slot and what really stood out with him were the breaks in his routes. He shows a quick stutter step that would get a defensive back to lean in one direction and allow him to blow by in the opposite way. His sure hands would catch most everything thrown his way, and his speed when getting past defenders meant a lot of room for his quarterback to throw him the ball in the middle of the field. Not only is he dangerous down the field, but he can also run the quick swing route in the RPO game and go north-to-south in a hurry for easy yardage when teams play off-coverage. He is dangerous when going against zone coverage, showing a nice ability to find the open window and create space for an easy pass for his quarterback. His big senior season earned him First Team All-State honors in Class 5A as well.
GO WHERE YOU ARE WANTED! Couldn’t be more excited to join the family! I am officially committed to South Western Oklahoma State University! Huge thank you to @warriorqbcoach @SWOSU_Kirkland @coach_lonardo @_CoachMay @coachjajczyk @football_cths @performanceemp and my family! pic.twitter.com/k0gRQIuAM3

Sam Pezdirtz, 2022, 5’11, 175, DB, Cherry Creek (committed to Missouri Western)
The second Class 5A player heading to Missouri Western on our list, Pezdirtz has been a part of a talented and deep defensive back roster at powerhouse Cherry Creek. He is a very willing to stop the run, showing multiple highlights of him bursting full-speed from the second level and taking out the legs of an opposing runner in the open field. He can move to the outside as a corner and go one-on-one with great closing speed and a nice ability to get his hands in the passing lanes to tip and deflect passes coming his way. His speed flashes on the film, and it allows him to play off coverage and then either come up quick to break up a pass or to tackle a receiver in the open field immediately upon reception. Cherry Creek also lined him up in the slot and used his speed to blitz on occasion. A versatile, fast defensive back that may have slid under the radar compared to some of his teammates, Pezdirtz has the skills necessary to help in multiple ways on defense and perhaps special teams in college.

Dominic Mazzulla Dominic Mazzulla TE Holy Family | 2022 State CO , 2022, 6’1, 215, TE/DE, Holy Family (committed to University of Mary)
Mazzulla started his career primarily contributing on the defensive side, getting plenty of action from his defensive end position. Last fall, he became a two-way threat, showing major strides in being a key tight end on offense. With a solid frame at 6-foot-1 and 215 pounds, he creates a big target for his quarterback to throw to, and he can either go up in the air or dive low and haul in a pass near the ground for his quarterback. He can sit in the opening on the short routes or work up the middle of the field. There were a number of 50/50 balls he caught with defenders draped all over him this season, showing he can catch the ball in traffic. He is comfortable from the standard Y-position right next to the tackle, or you can flex him and play in the slot. After recording just two receptions in his sophomore and junior years total, he caught 49 passes for 863 yards and 9 touchdowns this past year. And he uses his frame, tools and physical skills to help on defense too, where he finished with 34 tackles, one sack and tow forced fumbles up front. Coming into his own his senior year resulted in him earning a chance to play at the University of Mary next year.
