The SE region of Ohio often gets overlooked in the recruiting process, but there are plenty of hidden gems all around if you look close enough. Joe Burrow is the talk of the football landscape, and rightfully so as he has led the Cincinnati Bengals to the Superbowl, SE Ohio native. Staying on theme, let’s talk about some young up-and-comers from the land of JOEY!
Leighton Loge – OLB
Nelsonville-York High School
6’1 190
2023
Notes:
The Tri-Valley Conference defensive player of the year did nothing but make plays all 2021. Loge practically lived in the backfield as he gathered a plethora of sacks and TFL’s as the weeks went on. Loge displays his football IQ and ability to run down ball carriers from the backside or slip through the gaps to make a tackle head-on. A hard-nosed, tough athlete that will tackle in space through blockers!
Garrett Brown – OLB
Wellston High School
6’1 200
2024
Notes:
Garrett Brown was a phenomenal edge rusher for Wellston last fall while helping the team as a slotback on offense. Brown’s ability to get sure tackles in the backfield is a bonus to his explosiveness off the edge. Brown is a natural at block destruction, good hands, and placement. Garrett expects a breakout season in 2022, All-State potential with college talent. He has to finish plays through the whistle come August, and the sky is the limit.
Ashton Allman – DE/TE
Vinton County High School
6’5 255
2024
Notes:
Ashton Allman is a high motor and high-energy athlete. He has optimal size and can bend well with good length too. Allman has the size of a D1 Tackle and is a solid blocker; this is a young player to keep tabs on this off-season. In 2021, Ashton made a lot of plays on the defensive line as a first-year starter. In 2022, Allman has to get into the best shape of his life as he will play full-time both ways.
Brady Woltz – FS
Vinton County High School
6’0 170
2024
Notes:
One of the region’s best “Ball Hawks” will be relied on to play some offense in 2022. Brady led his team and league in interceptions (7) in 2021. Woltz played his first year at safety, and he did not disappoint as he earned All-District honors. With a 4.6 forty-yard dash, his speed and explosiveness will show on the track this spring.
Gabe Raschke – RB
Vinton County High School
5’11 205
2024
Notes:
He started the season in 2021 as a defender but got a chance to carry the ball vs. Athens. Gabe emerged as a critical player for Vinton County as he dominated the league as a dark horse running back. What’s most impressive about Raschke is his vision of carrying the football. Player of the year type talent on the offensive side of the ball, and in 2021, Gabe rushed for over 900 yards and 11 touchdowns. Expect to see Gabe’s recruitment pick up as he can also play hybrid positions on defense.
