Continue ReadingPrep Redzone has yet to release its 2025 rankings, but I wanted to get a jump start on ranking the top class of 2025 players I saw in Orange County this past season.
This list is based on freshman performance at the varsity level and future projections. This list will change many times over the next few years, but here is a look at 10 of the best freshman I saw in Orange County in 2021.
For the players ranked 6-10, click here for a breakdown.
5. Michael Tollefson Michael Tollefson 6'1" | 195 lbs | QB Tustin | 2025 State CA , San Juan Hills
Tollefson is one of the most polished freshman quarterbacks I have ever seen. He keeps his eyes down the field when under pressure, he moves well in the pocket to evade pressure and has a good grasp of the offense. He has a smooth release and knows when to throw hard and when to put touch on the ball. He is a good athlete but I didn’t consider him a speedy guy until he ran for a long touchdown on a QB draw in the season finale against Tesoro. He has a lot of upside and has offers from San Jose State, Nevada and Arizona.
Tonight, San Juan Hills turns the starting QB position over to freshman Michael “Butter” Tollefson.
In limited action over 3 games, @m_tollefson2025 completed 8 of 18 for 75 yards, 2 TDs.

4. Sione Tohi Sione Tohi 6'4" | 300 lbs | OL Mater Dei | 2025 State CA , Mater Dei
Tohi is the best freshman offensive lineman I saw in the state last season. He is already a very good pass blocker who keeps his hips square, has a good hand punch and is good at picking up late blitzes and stunts. He run blocks well and will only get better at that when he adds some strength. He is 6-foot-4, 300 pounds and when he comes in to replace an injured lineman for the Monarchs, they don’t miss a beat. He was a MaxPreps Freshman All-American and has an offer from Cal.

3. Jordon Davison Jordon Davison 6'0" | 210 lbs | RB Mater Dei | 2025 State CA , Mater Dei
Mater Dei just had an excellent Power 5 running back in Raleek Brown Raleek Brown 5'9" | 185 lbs | RB Mater Dei | 2022 State CA and the future is bright with young backs like Ajon Bryant Ajon Bryant 5'7" | 160 lbs | RB Mater Dei | 2024 State CA and Davison. He has excellent speed for a back who is 200 pounds and is a tough guy to bring down. He always seems to add two or three yards to every carry after contact. He can catch passes out of the backfield and although they didn’t use him a ton in the passing game this season, I can see him being a matchup problem for defenses in the future. Davison has offers from Florida Atlantic, Utah State, Arizona State, Pittsburgh, Utah, Oregon, Nevada, Oklahoma State, USC, Arizona, Oregon State and Cal.

2. Jett White Jett White 6'1" | 155 lbs | DB Los Alamitos | 2025 CA , Orange
White was one of the best freshman cornerbacks in the country last season and is already verbally committed to USC. He dominates older and more experienced receivers in man coverage and is the best on-ball cornerback I have seen at his age. He had a 90-plus yard pick six against Capo Valley and returned it to perfection. He flies up the field to stop the running game and knows his role in the defense. He won’t sacrifice a potential big play for his personal highlight. He will deflect the ball instead of trying to jump the route for an interception or he will be the outside force player in the running game to force the back to cut back into other defenders who can make the tackle. It’s rare to see a young player be as unselfish as White is. Despite being committed to USC, he has been racking up offers lately, with BYU, Akron and Arizona being the latest to join.

1. Weston Port Weston Port 6'2" | 225 lbs | LB San Juan Hills | 2025 State CA , San Juan Hills
Port is the best freshman pass rusher I can recall seeing. He had 91 tackles, 25 for a loss with 12 sacks as a freshman against a very competitive schedule. He was a MaxPreps All-American and the only freshman player to make the All-County team by the OC Register. He has great strength for a freshman, good power and speed pass rush moves and is always in the backfield. He has sideline-to-sideline speed which makes him an effective run stopper and he “wrong shoulder techniques” pullers to stuff power runs and traps. He was already one of the top defensive players in the state and it’s hard to imagine how much better he will be with more time in the weight room. Port has 14 offers including Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Texas A&M and Utah among others.
