Today, we look at the top scoring kickers that will take the field this fall.
Landon Giebler, 2023, 6’1, 180, Dakota Ridge
Giebler scored the most points for a kicker in 2021 with 83. He shows plenty of power, hitting a few kicks from over 40 yards late in the season, and 52 of his 77 kickoffs were for touchbacks. He shows good accuracy as well, hitting 68 of 71 extra points and 5 of 7 field goals.
Jeremy Claycamp, 2023, 6’0, 145, Valor Christian
Claycamp was one of the most accurate kickers in Colorado last year. He did not miss a single PAT or field goal attempt. There were 51 extra points and six field goals made, with the longest field goal coming from 31 yards. Valor Christian’s offense is plenty good to score touchdowns frequently, but they have a sure three points in the red zone with him. He also booted 21 touchbacks on 61 kickoffs.
Sam Smolen, 2024, 6’0, 175, Lutheran
Plenty of opportunities to score in the kicking game were there for Smolen. He his 68 extra points on 73 attempts. He was perfect in the second half of the season, not missing a kick in the final seven games of the season. In addition to his extra points, Smolen is the team’s punter, averaging 44.2 yards per punt on nine punts, including two longs of 59 and one of 58.
Caleb Harner Caleb Harner K Erie | 2023 CO , 2023, 6’3, 166, Erie
Harner made it a routine kicking the ball out of the end zone for touchbacks for Erie. When it comes to scoring, he made 61 of 71 extra points. There were not as many field goal attempts for him, but he has the leg to make kicks from 40+ yards if needed.
Daniel Gerlach, 2023, 5’10, 135, Boulder
Gerlach is the returning leader in Colorado in terms of field goals made from last season. He made seven of nine field goals and had two games where he made multiple kicks. He mostly made kicks when Boulder was in the red zone, but his leg has plenty of power to try from 40+ if needed. He made 27 of his 30 extra point attempts as well. Kickoffs were solid with 45.8 yards per kickoff and 363 total yards punting for his team.
