Defensive MVPs
I always look for the guys who want to play defense at camps, and this group in Austintown stood out. The All Ohio Showcase was full of talent in Austintown, and the names will keep flowing. Defensively speaking, the talent from the line to the secondary was a solid mix, and so many up-and-coming prospects were putting their skills on display. Let’s look at the Defensive MVPs.
Xavier Dahn c/o 2024 – Youngstown Ursuline
6’3 250 lbs
DL – MVP
Notes:
The young physical prospect has a chance to make a name for himself this summer. I had the opportunity to cover Xavier and his team during the state championship, and he was a vital part of the defense. Dahn is explosive and quick with his feet, his ability to rush the passer is pretty good, and the tale of the tape will approve of that message. At the Showcase, his skill set was on full display as he stood out as the top prospect on the DL. Xavier is a D1 prospect, and I will not be surprised if he blows up.
Colin Murphy c/o 2023 – Brookfield
5’11 185 lbs
LB – MVP
Notes:
Colin made a good impression from the start of camp; you could see his focus from the warm-up lines. I watched Murphy go through the bags during the agility stations, and his footwork was on point. Speed is another thing that Colin has going for him as he is a state qualifier in the 4×200 for his track team. Lateral movements were there, and his physicalness showed a little during LB vs. RB drills. Murphy’s film shows his want to attack ball carriers and can be a scholarship athlete. Colin is another prospect I’ll follow up on this spring/summer.
Dan Evans c/o 2024 – Austintown Fitch
5’8 160 lbs
DB – MVP
Notes:
Locking down some of the best WRs all camp long made it easy to see why Evans was the MVP. Dan is a fast player and is a true athlete. Dan’s technique was on point, and his ability to communicate when talking coverages. With Dan’s elite speed, he will indeed get looked at by college coaches, and his genetics are there! Expect to see Evans elevate Fitch this season as he will hurt teams in all three game phases. Evans has All-State talent, IMO.
Danny Inglis c/o 2024 – Canfield
6’1 195 lbs
RB/LB (Fastest Camper MVP)
Notes:
Inglis is a built-up 6’1 specimen, and he can run with the best of them. Danny was one of the first players that caught my eye, and then finding out he is in the class of 2024 was the icing on the cake. With the weight room numbers, you can see why the Canfield coaches are high on Inglis’s abilities. Lateral quickness will be the most significant area that needs improvement as he heads to the summer. I project Danny has a chance to be an outstanding linebacker at the next level if he continues to get bigger and faster. Canfield football just got a new fan!
